NYC INTERNS SUMMER 2025

Less than a month before internships start! For everyone in a similar position, would love to hear how you're prepping to be in New York (not necessarily work/office related). I don't know anybody that'll be in the city so any tips on how to meet others would be great. Hope everyone has a great summer!

To make the most of your summer in NYC and meet others, here are some tips based on the most helpful WSO content:

  1. Housing and Commuting:

    • If you haven’t secured housing yet, consider subletting an apartment or using Airbnb close to your office. Walking distance is ideal to save time and energy.
    • If you’re commuting from outside the city (e.g., Bronx), weigh the cost savings against the time and effort of daily travel.
  2. Socializing and Networking:

    • Throw yourself into social situations. Join social clubs, fitness classes (like Equinox or SoulCycle), or alumni groups. These are great ways to meet people outside of work.
    • Participate in all social events organized by your internship program. Whether it’s a bar outing, lunch, or coffee with colleagues, these moments are key to building relationships.
    • Be spontaneous and open to meeting new people. Living with roommates or connecting with other interns can help you build a social circle quickly.
  3. Exploring NYC:

    • Take advantage of NYC’s vibrant culture. Attend events, visit museums, or explore Broadway shows. Smaller events like cooking classes or seasonal activities (e.g., summer festivals) can also be fun and social.
    • Plan weekend outings to discover different neighborhoods and hidden gems in the city.
  4. Networking Beyond Work:

    • If you’re looking to expand your professional network, schedule coffee chats or lunches with professionals in the city. Many are open to meeting, especially if you give them a week or two’s notice.
    • Use your proximity to NYC to meet people in person. Even if it doesn’t lead to immediate job offers, it helps cement your network for the future.
  5. Mindset:

    • Embrace the experience. NYC can feel overwhelming, but it’s also a place full of opportunities. Stay positive, be proactive, and enjoy the journey.

Have an amazing summer in NYC!

What’s up man - happy to give you some pointers. I’ve lived in NYC my entire life and am also interning here this summer.

Not sure where you’re staying, maybe NYU/FIT, but probably somewhere in Manhattan I assume?

What are you looking for - like where to go out, general things to do, working out, let me know happy to help.

I'm staying in Chelsea with a family friend, so i'm worried because i know a lot of people are together in NYU dorms. Interseted in where to work out, since i'll only be there 3 months i'm not sure of what makes the most sense to do, as well as convenient for midtown work and staying in Chelsea

The West Village is great for going out. Tons of bars in the Washington Square/NYU area which is pretty close to Chelsea.

With gyms they’re obviously a dime a dozen, the only bad part being you’ll have to eat higher costs since it’d only be for 3 months. But overall Chelsea is super nice, good location for I assume working in the midtown area. Chelsea is also great for running/biking to stay fit along the Hudson, which I’d definitely recommend as well.

FWIW, the NYU dorms are pretty bad so I think you lucked out being in a better overall location and being able to get away from all the other interns that live in that area.

Thanks man, also worried because under 21, think I have any chance getting in anywhere?
