Offer Decision - Currently a junior and a finance major
I am currently a junior and a finance major at a relatively small school. Last week I received two offers, one from Credit Suisse and the other from UBS. Both are in their technology division...technology summer analyst. UBS has higher pay, located in NJ. CS in NYC.
I am wondering if the position are essentially identical, which would be better for me in the long run? I am not 100% sure what I am aiming for in my career at the moment.
Thanks for any input.
Both would look very good on a resume. Two things to consider - CS might be the better choice just because it's in the city where things are happening. NJ will be boooring (sorry Frieds). You'll be in the heart of NYC, surrounded by a bunch of young people for the summer. The lifestyle will be an experience in itself. That counts for something. Also consider which place you'd like to end up working at FT, because your goal this summer should be to get a FT offer. If a FT offer at UBS would be in NJ and you think that sucks, I'd take CS now because that also means there's a good chance you'll end up at CS full time. On the flip side, if you like the more suburban life, go UBS.
Also - don't let any difference in pay sway your decision. The difference is at most $1,000-$2,000, which is peanuts in the grand scheme of things. Your experience during the summer and the place you might end up full time are far more important than a few bucks.
Agreed with CaptK. You'll likely have a very similar work experience at both, but you'd have a lot more fun in the city. Unless you don't want to work in the city FT, I'd go for CS.
Thanks for the input guys. I actually live in NJ, so I personally don't have too much preference in terms of location. Is there a general consensus that working in the city is a lot more favorable than working in the suburbs? It's actually not to suburban-like..right across the river from NYC. I was thinking more in terms of the long-term options for me within both UBS and Credit Suisse, Is one summer internship program better than the other, is one considered better than the other overall? Thanks for all the input.
