Pass/Fail in a College Course
Hello -- I am a Statistics major, and I have been working hard to increase my average this past year. I am taking Financial Accounting this quarter, and while I have liked it, I got a flat B on the midterm. And though the final is weighted as 60% of the course grade, I don't think I have enough time as of now to study and get a B+ or better on the exam unfortunately. In the next two weeks, I have a lot of work in my other courses for my major and my core that I cannot take pass/fail. So, in part to alleviate my stress and also to minimize the risk to my GPA, I am considering taking Financial Accounting pass/fail. I would like to apply to Goldman Sachs as well as other big banks like Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan, and their application for the Summer of 2021 from what I have read opens in the summer/early autumn. As a result, I am wondering if these big banks ask for transcripts and examine them before extending an offer. I have been told that Cumulative GPA matters most, but I also understand that taking Financial Accounting pass/fail is not great and might pose an issue going forward. Also, would my Cumulative GPA be seen as particularly weak? I just began my first quarter of my second year this Winter, and I anticipate having a 3.68 if all goes well by the end of the year with A-'s in my other courses right now and hopefully in the spring as well.
