PE out of college in Europe is much more feasible?
Hello, i have a curios question, as most of us know usually in the US, people do IB for 2-3 years then they start recruiting for PE. I am well aware some individuals secure offers straight out of college. However, in europe I have been seeing many funds recruiting junior people with no IB experience, AUM between 1 billion up until 50 billion. My question is do you think starting directly in PE out of college is worth it without the IB experience? Do you think someone working in these types of firms, can make the switch to IB if they decide too later on in their career? Just wondering
Thanks in advance

Career Flexibility:
In summary, while starting directly in PE out of college in Europe is more feasible and can fast-track your career, it is essential to weigh the long-term implications and consider how it aligns with your career goals. Transitioning to IB later might be challenging, and starting in IB could offer more flexibility in your career path.

Wouldn't say many people get to work in PE right after uni.
Two things to consider:
outside of London every other place expects you to have a master's degree (even for IB)
i have friends that get MF/MM PE internships but only a very few convert
With those in mind you can probably start in some very low AUM firm and work your way to UMM or MF but it takes quite some time and knowing the right people. Usually people opt in for the classic IB -> PE path
I think only KKR, Bx, and Warburg have a proper analyst programme with 1-3 spots each
Strangely enough, it seems like more PE funds have analyst programs in EUR than the in the US. CD&R has an analyst program in London.
exactly that was my thought process, many people start out off college in PE in europe.
Id say so as well, i think Ardian also have several spots but again quite rare to see people directly start in PE
