Race/Ethnicities Factors in Recruiting?

Hey guys, I was wondering how my race/ethnicity would affect me in the process of recruiting. My parents are both mixed (genetically and ethnically), so I am, too. But I think culturally my family is completely Asian. Our ancestors immigrated to an Asian country a long time ago, after which we lost all contact with our relatives in that original Eastern European country. My parents grew up fully Asian and fully identify with their Asian identity, as do I. I do look mixed in appearance, but I can also pass as Asian. In the past, when I had to fill out my race information for whatever reason, I always just put "Asian" instead of "two or more races" (including college applications, lol). But when I recently talked to some of my friends in the finance industry, they thought what I had done is really dumb and made me rethink the disadvantages of being Asian in college and job applications.

Now I am thinking about whether I should rediscover my identity and identify myself as "two or more races". I feel a little weird even though biologically that's correct, I grew up in just one culture and am totally comfortable with just considering myself as Asian. But also, I do have this idea that Asians might have to meet higher standards to reach the same results due to fiercer competition (and yes I do regret not selecting two and more races when applying to colleges).

I would be very grateful if you guys could give me some suggestions on this. I'm particularly curious about whether the race of applicants is taken into account when applying for jobs in finance. I know all banks will tell you that race doesn't make any difference in terms of recruiting, only applicants' performance does, but I also worry that that may not be the real case.
