Re-recruiting

Hi everyone. I have a simple question. What's generally the view on someone who re recruits after an internship for the purpose of upping their bank's name?

I have an internship in DCM at a reputable European bank (ING/BNP type) and I'm grateful I could make it. But obviously I'd like to make a leap into a BB ideally in London. I'm thinking I could finish the internship and then reapply for off-cycle internships at a BB. What would it look like?

I'm keeping in mind exit opps also. A friend of mine moved from MS DCM to a private credit fund and am trying to replicate a move like that.

I'm a bit confused on the situation you're in -- are you currently in an undergrad internship looking for a full-time offer after? Is it an internship with a return offer of another internship?

Either way, re-recruiting is possible -- saw both of the above scenarios happen in one year at my internship bank (I recruited for another place full-time).

Your goal of the internship should be to get a return offer no matter what. If you aren't able to get the return offer, re-recruiting becomes even harder given that's the first question you'd be asked.

Assuming your goal is to get a return offer and use that to help your re-recruitment process, then during your internship I'd be sure to keep your networking lines open. Reach out to people at your target bank and develop a relationship without asking about an internship / full time offer right away. As the internship progresses, let them know you may be looking to switch and gauge their response. Assuming it's not negative, then after you receive your return offer you can go ahead and openly mention you want to re-recruit and ask if they have availability and are interviewing. Wait until you get the offer so you don't tip anyone off at your current firm.

Hopefully you are able to interview and get an opportunity within your timeline to respond to your return offer. If you don't you may either have to accept your return offer and take it, or accept it and renege. Reneging isn't the end of the world, but it's worse if it's in the same city / circles. You won't be blackballed from every firm like people say you will, but you may be from a few. Just be smart before you fully decide to go down that path.

I should clarify I'm a MSc student so this is an off-cycle internship, starts in July and ends in October. The plan is to get the return offer and then re-recruit for another off-cycle or full-time at a bigger bank, yes.
