received an offer and I need help ASAP
help me out boys: to give some context: I am a student at a target in europe. However due to low grades and not perfecting the local language of where I live, its been tough to secure an offer at a good firm. I will graduate soon and I am in desperate need of some IB experience, so I decided to search some boutique investment banks in my area and contact them directly (cold calling, linked in etc..), some bank budged and decided to interview me. He is a great guy however the boutique is very small (2-10 employees, not much deal flow, and small deals) so I am a bit hesitant to directly take it. I have 2 interviews with similar firms lined up too. My question is can you actually build a career if u start at such a small firm? can you lateral to a bigger firm? What characteristics I need to look for when I am deciding whether I’ll take the offer or not. Please remember I am based in Europe (not UK and US). Any tips about boutique banks in Europe is greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance (sorry for the long text)
Of course you can build a successful career. It's a marathon not a sprint. This is one of the main downfalls of WSO, it teaches people that if they don't get BB straight out of uni, their world will fall apart.
Brother a MS MD told me just 2 weeks ago that even if you can get 5-10M EV deals experience, that is a good start, when I mentioned if it would be possible to lateral at a shop starting at 50-100 M EV deals.
Don’t chase prestige, chase experience.
MBA is always a back up option in the future, get real IB experience for now. You’ll be preferred over someone who does something totally unrelated once market picks up.
