SAT Score Accident

Received an SA offer at one of IB/PE firm for next summer and was wondering how rigorous the background check process tends to be.. Noticed that there was a substantial error related to the standardized testing score on my application, and mentioning this to HR would certainly rescind my offer. Should I assume the risk and sign the contract or forego doing that to prevent being caught? What are the chances someone background checks me? FWIW, I have no standardized testing score for this format and there would simply be no score to be found rather than a lower one.

so basically you didn't take the SAT and accidentally put 1600? then you randomly had the urge to check your application after the fact and magically caught the error? wild stuff man must be a huge "accident"

Bro u lied u fr fucked. Unless u can create a fake collegeboard profile and sat score pdf it’s not looking good. Just come forward to the HR and they won’t rescind. Once they find out on their own then it’s not good

Bro if I come forward to HR they would rescind anyways.. Do the background checking companies even verify test scores cause there is literally no way that could occur afaik

Coming forward is certainly the noble thing to do here, but if you want to maximize your chances at keeping your SA, then don't. Come forward, there's a pretty good chance you'll have the offer rescinded, even if the firm "values honesty".

This should be a non issue. Question is, why are you even listing high school test scores to begin with?

I am from a school that is not well represented and mentioning a test score would substantially raise my chances at landing a first round at these firms.

Crazy that buyside headhunters are asking for scores on test you took at 17 for a job you'll start at 24.

I understand the need to have a lot of filters, but that's just absurd.

Oh woe is me, for truth I hath displaced,

With numbers feigned, a score I have embraced.

Upon the parchment of my life's account,

A tainted SAT did I surmount.

Within the echelons of banking's lords,

Where honest men do wield their golden swords,

I, a mere jester, clad in lies,

Did cast a shadow under false disguise.

But lo! The raven's call doth sound,

My deceitful deeds hath been unwound.

The specter of my falsity in sight,

Brings forth the darkness, robbing light.

"Thou art not fit," they shall proclaim,

In the arena of monetary game.

"Your trust," they'll say, "is but a shade,

A hollow echo in the arcade."

From lofty dreams, I am dejected,

By truth's harsh glare, I am reflected.

For integrity, once lost, is hard regained,

And honor's stain is not so easily drained.

In silver's realm, where trust is key,

My mendacity has damned me.

From Wall Street's hallowed halls expelled,

To lonely road, my fate is held.

Oh cruel fortune, by dishonesty besmirched,

Into the tempest of regret, I'm hurled, I'm lurch'd.

Would that I could time's wheel rewind,

And proffer truth of score and mind.

But no, the die is cast, 'tis done,

The shadow of my deeds cannot be run.

In false account, my fate is sealed,

In sorrow's verse, my tale revealed.

None of these firms are going to take the time to reach out to CollegeBoard to release your test scores - especially since they didn't even ask for it in the application and it was just on your resume. People even put different GPAs during recruiting seasons and their GPA drops significantly after and even then it's not an issue. Stop listening to everyone here who wants you to lose your offer for the hell of it and keep everything under wraps and just sign the offer. Trust.

The odds they are going to take the time to review your SA app's SAT score is so low (not sure they care at all). Don't be a liar moving forward, it helps no one. Assuming you had to lie due to lack of offers / quals, find a way to build your resume without lying.

I would not say anything unless they specifically ask about it. In that case, make an excuse about how you need to get it mailed and you need to submit new documents to process the transcript due to a change of address. Do everything over the phone so nothing is documented.

Keep delaying as much as possible and if they really need proof, say you'll get them an unofficial report in the meanwhile and inspect element a friend's score report. Hopefully this will all wash over soon, but don't stress too much, I think everything will be fine in the end.

This is a non issue. Nobody checks and nobody cares.

Here are some facts:

SAT/ACT scores cannot be given directly to institutions. They are designed only for colleges. Therefore, there's no such thing as a truly "official" score report that they can request.

You're a summer analyst, meaning you'll be working for 10ish weeks. This already makes you bottom of the bucket in terms of how much they care about you. They'll measure your performance during those 10 weeks and decide to give you a return offer, no HR people are going over return offers at the end of the summer and thinking "well Jimmy performed like shit, but his resume says he got a 1580 so let's give him a 6 figure salary and a 5 figure signing bonus!" Banks don't care about the "fairness" of the SA application process that much because there's no such thing. Everyone knows that half the applicants are probably qualified to do the work. So if you think they'd spend salaried hours of HR staff to hunt after SA's ur dead wrong.

You're young. Bankers are humans, everyone makes mistakes. Worst case it's FTP (140k base btw) and they actually press you with score checking. Worst comes to worst you fake it, and if they find out you faked it then you just get a job at a different bank. Referring to my #2 point - the banking industry is small, and people talk, but not about people as irrelevant as SA's.

But ofc in the future never lie. Everyone on this forum knows that it's not an accident because we've all done the same thing in one form or another :)

On behalf of all the people who didn't cheat and are still searching, hope ur shit gets rescinded little bro

Controversial

Naive to assume that my supposed SAT score led to my offer lol. Aced all of the interview segments and arguably did better than the wealthy pricks from Ivies due to beating all of them out. You won't ever understand the hustle buddy

Backgrounds checks at banks do not check SAT scores. Idiot recruiters use it to screen out resumes because they do not know what they are hiring for. That is it. Being that it has been a while since you took your test, it can take weeks or even months to retrieve your score.  In background checks, you will be given an application. Be as honest as possible in the application. The background check is done to make sure you are who you say you are that is it, HR will not see the application. If you are honest on your application, you will pass the background check.

SATs should not be used for job applications. It is a readiness test. It measures to see if you are ready for your freshman year in college. This is misusing a test. Not understanding what is being tested can have dire consequences. I was a Psychologist in my former life. These banks can be sued for asking for these exams.

they will find out and most likely skin you alive or hire a sniper to take you out

My 2¢ - some places absolutely DO ask for proof of test results. Has happened twice for me. Not worth the risk of doing this since the SAT score will not get you the job anyway (it’s a high school test for goodness sake)

Why tf would you lie about taking an SAT on your resume that you never took. That’s not an “accident” that’s blatantly lying.

Offer should get rescinded

I’ve had a good amount of background checks initiated for me and have never had someone ask for score verification or any of the 3rd party companies reach out.

This guy lied about his race being Latino even though he’s south East Asian, he lied about his GPA, graduating year, SAT score, and being gay. This firm is some PE firm in nyc I believe. He should be held accountable.
