Not everyone responds to thank you emails - there isn't much to respond to. "Thanks - nice meeting/speaking to you too"
It's just repetitive nonsense.
You're born, you take shit. You get out in the world, you take more shit. You climb a little higher, you take less shit. Till one day you're up in the rarefied atmosphere and you've forgotten what shit even looks like. Welcome to the layer cake, son.
Interviewing is an art my friend. Being a few minutes late didn't help your cause, but the impressions you convey in your Q&A & the story you tell carry far more weight. IMO, you probably didn't have that "it" factor, so he conveniently had a rebuff for every question you had on role opportunities there. Happens to everyone - move on to the next one...

this. people i know have gone into interviews 15 minutes late and still got the call right after. don't harp on your mistakes and focus on highlighting your strengths. should have apologized once and not brought it up again.
In a situation like this where you were 5 minutes late, it's probably best not to bring it up multiple times in conversation and then again in email.
People tend to think life is a race with other people. They don't realize that every moment they spend sprinting towards the finish line is a moment they lose permanently, and a moment closer to their death.
[From HR sources] in IB there are an average of 500 applicants for every job opening. Maybe about 30 get interviewed. So you've already beaten the odds by being one of them -not bad.
To be honest, it doesn't sound good
Story is one of the most important parts for someone looking to break in
Looks like he kept deflecting your questions about hiring and threw out BS lines to say that you're not qualified
I think this is situational. If a candidate for a job I was hiring for showed up late it would definitely be a MAJOR hang-up for me. It's situational because there are roles that are difficult to find qualified candidates for; however, this is a role where there are plenty of qualified applicants. If it had been me I wouldn't have even brought you into my office when you arrived late. We all make mistakes--I called one of the guys who was interviewing me "old" by mistake. That didn't go over well. Stuff happens--go on to the next opportunity.

Cheer up. Every rejection brings you one step closer to success. Sometimes it's hard to catch a break from Murphy's law..

This exactly. In fact, I wouldn't have even mentioned it unless you were certain he was aware that you were late.
