Should I include my military service on my application?
I'm filling in applications for banks in London at the moment. One thing in particular they are asking is military experience. I served in my home country, which is a 3rd world country. The service was 1 year long, but it was extremely secretive. Due to the nature of service I was forced to sign a document pledging to never disclose specific information about my service. In addition, I needed a travel permit to even get out of the country after my service. Dismissing many details here, for the most part I was translating documents sent from and received by the military intelligence office. This is the taboo part that I cant disclose. In case I do answer "yes" to military service, will they verify what I say with the military or how exactly?
Or... Should I just answer no?
I mean, you definitely shouldn't lie--especially if your home country has mandatory service in which case it will be easily figured out.
Say that you served and if asked for details tell the truth without mentioning anything you aren't allowed to. Based on what you wrote in your post it sounds like you had an administrative role and rode a desk, nothing too exciting but still got some good leadership experience along with having opportunities to brief senior officers, etc.
