Small Boutique in Hometown vs Mid Tier BB

Since some people will say this is an obvious decision, I’ll lay out my list of pros and cons for both.

Mid Tier BB pros: 1. Above average group at this BB 2. Heard great things about the culture in terms of WLB 3. Brand name for my resume

Mid Tier BB cons 1. NY taxes and generally liberal people (I’m more libertarian so this kinda matters but not really) 2. COL is significantly higher than my hometown 3. Haven’t seen great exits to PE, from the group but not terrible 4. Not my favorite industry

Boutique pros: 1. Friend group and family in my hometown 2. Apparently they pay street (all In I’ve heard is 170-200k, 100k base) 3. Promotion path is unstructured (been told I could get associate in 1 year, this would apply all the way up the ladder theoretically) 4. Absurd deal flow in an industry I’m interested in

Boutique cons 1. Exits would be far more limited in terms of buy side recruiting 2. Not sure about their stipends for food and Ubers

Holy shit I literally could've wrote this 6 months ago. I went with the hometown boutique and haven't looked back. I feel like I've made the right decision for so many reasons
