SO DONE WITH M&A

The title says it all, I'm so done with M&A. I was laid off as a second year analyst at an almost bulge bracket, due to a complete stoppage in deal flow. Since my technical skills aren't where they need to be and I don't see that changing any time soon, I'm looking to pivot to another role that is less technical and a better fit for my skills -- communication, organization, and teamwork. All of my internships during school and post-graduation work experience is in finance, so I don't see other fields as a realistic option. I am considering "back office" IB roles, but don't know much about them. Any recommendations for jobs that are less technical would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for reading and responding!

Look into Investor Relations at buyside firms, pretty interesting gig that heavily relies on people skills from what I hear and pays decently well with great WLB. Got no return from my summer in IB and have been considering going into the space. Corporate banking is also a lot more relationship focused and the technical skills at the junior level are very basic

Could also add corp dev/strat jobs at less acquisitive firms... harder gigs to find, but tremendously less pressure and typically 40 hour work weeks. I just left a firm that had a corp dev team like this, had not made a major asset purchase in 2/3 years, maybe at most refi of loans for their existing subs that they bought many moons ago. Job is not "sexy" but the folks there get to have a good life outside of work.

would look at corporate finance / corp dev as a senior financial analyst / associate. figure out what size company you wanna work for then start applying. i started as a SFA recently with a company that is fully remote and make more than i did in banking (base) and absolutely love the people and the product.

Yeah I have worked as a senior financial analyst in a corporate finance role in management consulting. Once you get all the financial models under control, it's pretty easy and you just cruuuuuissseeee after that.
