Soon to be FSA but bored of the actuarial profession, seeking advice regarding career switch

I'm going to be a fully accredited actuary early next year. I'm paid well as an actuary and have a very cushy job. However, working with annuity cf projections is becoming very dull for me, there's very little to learn beyond what i already know and there's little room for advancement. I had worked on the alm side in a previous job and had an offer from a well known hedge model development firm in nyc but had to turn it down for family reasons, and I've regretted deeply since. Would potential employers value my background as an actuary? What would be a good way to break into the investment field for someone with my background? I'd like to hear your thoughts!
