Stanford Engineering Undergrad / Graduated but no experience
Hey guys,
I graduated from Stanford in EE a year ago with 3.9 gpa and am currently in the master's program in EE. I have taken couple stat classes, and am quick with numbers. I was going to go to the engineering track but am interested in trading after a stat class I took. How do you guys think I should break into trading? Do I have a good chance? I was thinking of going to the job fairs.
Uh yeah dude you have a great chance of breaking into trading...you have one of the toughest degrees at Stanford and a 3.9 gpa. Go to job fairs and get business cards and follow up, and consider sending out an email to any local Bay Area and Peninsula firms you can look up as a start. I know there are a fair # of prop firms out in CA and they target CalTech and Stanford.
No chance.
@secretariat Thanks for the advice! I'll make sure to go network like crazy this fall.
@pacman007 Why is there no chance? Is my no experience a big problem?
3.9 from stanford EE lol kid if you have no chance then a non-target like myself should go straight to begging on the streets.
you have a very good career center. Use that alumni network list to find S&T people. Yes it will be harder to break in as opposed to someone who does have experience, but I wouldn't stress it. Just pick up finance books and try to learn as much as possible. But ya as the above poster said, shouldn't be too hard.
Should I contact them and ask for internships maybe? I found a whole list of them on my alumni network... Thanks so much for the advice! Oh and do you have a good book you could recommend? :)

Jane Street and DRW were both at the engineering job fair in the spring, and neither really seemed to care about finance experience or major
ur fuckd!
my advice: make up a good story why you want to do trading first
