Switching careers after 2 years

I am currently at a BB in a BO role.

I graduated as an Engineer in May 2012 (2 years back) from a competitive Engineering college (not known for Finance whatsoever) with a 3.5 GPA. At that point I was interested in ER and HR managers indicated that there would be internal positions within the BB firm.

Since my school had very limited connections with BBs and other major finance firms, I decided to take up the offer but don't really see much chance of such a move happening now.

I don't have much experience for an MBA school and most of my experience is BO work (not very MBA friendly) so I am looking for some advice on how to switch careers.

Apply to Columbia University M.S. Financial Engineering. Stop wasting your time in BO. I interned under two analysts in NYC who both graduated from Columbia who were both ex-engineers non ivy undergrad. It's definitely possible. MS will be the shorter/cheaper route and you'll still have the option for MBA. Be warned structured finance is incredibly math heavy and directors typically have PhDs in math so find a way out before getting stuck. It's not impossible to lateral to a trading position (MBS,CMBS etc.) I interned under the Structuring Group in 2011.
