Switching firms

Hi guys, I've been working at a financial planning firm as a financial advisor. It is a subsidiary of HTK and pennmutual. They have an excellent training program and there are a lot of really successful advisors that started out with them. I work on a small business planning team...

The issue? Everything we do involves insurance.. I'm told to use my natural market to build my book and ask for recommendations. They care only about my insurance commissions. I have been the top producer since the last two years for them but I have not picked up nearly any AUM.

I just got an offer from my cousin to join his Investment firm. It's an LLC and he is one of the three partners. They do a lot of business planning, wealth management, etc. Whats attractive is they have only been around since 2005 and between less than 5 advisors they manage nearly 650mm AUM. I'm meeting with the partners in a few weeks and from the sounds of it they want to offer me a salary of 60k and taper it off as my residual grows.

Is this a good move for me? I think that my cousin would probably spoon feed me a lot of leads to build a good base for myself. I don't want to be 4-5 years in with less than 7-10mm AUM.

Open to advice..

Thanks,
