Upcoming Super Day, How to Prepare?

I have been working in consumer banking for the past couple of years and I got offered a Super Day for an analyst position at a large private bank.  This is my first Super Day and I don't know what to expect.  What will it be like and how should I prepare?

Super Days can be intense, but with the right preparation, you can excel. Based on the most helpful WSO content, here’s how you can prepare and what to expect:

What to Expect:

  1. Format:

    • Typically, Super Days consist of 3-5 interviews, each lasting 15-30 minutes, often back-to-back. There may be a mix of technical, behavioral, and situational questions.
    • You’ll likely meet with a range of professionals, from analysts to managing directors, depending on the firm.
  2. Interview Types:

    • Technical: Be ready to discuss valuation methodologies, market trends, and any technical skills listed on your resume.
    • Behavioral: Expect questions about your strengths, weaknesses, and past experiences. Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure your answers.
    • Situational/Strategic Thinking: Questions may test how you approach problems or hypothetical scenarios.
  3. Environment:

    • It’s a high-pressure day with multiple candidates. Interviewers will meet many people, so standing out positively is crucial.

How to Prepare:

  1. Know Your Resume Inside Out:

    • Be prepared to explain every bullet point, internship, or project listed. Rehearse answers out loud and anticipate follow-up questions.
  2. Behavioral Preparation:

    • Develop 5-7 STAR stories that highlight your achievements, problem-solving skills, and teamwork.
    • Practice answering common questions like "Why this firm?" and "Why this role?"
  3. Technical Preparation:

    • Review valuation methodologies, market trends, and any relevant technical concepts.
    • If applicable, prepare to discuss a stock pitch, M&A deal, or industry trend.
  4. Practice on Camera:

    • If any part of the Super Day is virtual, practice answering questions on camera. Ensure good lighting, a professional background, and clear communication.
  5. Be Memorable:

    • Share unique, interpersonal stories that showcase your skills and personality. The goal is to leave a lasting positive impression.
  6. Logistics:

    • Bring printed copies of your resume in a professional folder or notebook.
    • Arrive early, dress professionally, and ensure you’re well-rested.
  7. Mindset:

    • Stay conversational and adaptable. If interrupted or asked follow-up questions, don’t panic—engage naturally.
    • Be conscious of your body language. Smile, sit upright, and maintain energy throughout the day.

Additional Tips:

  • Thank You Notes: After the Super Day, send personalized thank-you emails to each interviewer, referencing specific parts of your conversation.
  • Leverage First-Round Contacts: If you’ve built rapport with your first-round interviewers, consider reaching out for advice or insights about the Super Day.

By preparing thoroughly and staying composed, you’ll maximize your chances of success. Good luck!
