Where to go from here - Working for a year now at a large broker dealer

I've been working for a year now at a large, well known broker dealer as a municipal bond trader. I'd like to move to New York soon, and given the economy and my experience, what would be a realistic job I could transition into? I know it will be tough, but if it helps I went to a top school and graduated with a 3.6 and an economics degree.

If possible I'd like to get out of trading and into a more analytical role.

Thanks in advance!

Why don't you get started by making sure your resume is updated and ready to go. Follow that up by reaching out to some of your contacts in the firm outside of trading, perhaps IB, if that is what you are looking towards. Beyond firm contacts, considering you went to a top school, you should absolutely start looking up alumni and reaching out to them as well. Just one year out of school is not that long of a time - you might find some opportunities with some shops either in IB or in some sort of trading/IB blend like Cap Mkts. I would definitely start reaching out to alumni and begin to lay the foundation. You don't need to know exactly what you want to do, but you should have a ballpark and division to keep from looking flighty and undecided - it is tough to go to bat for someone if they have no idea what they are looking for.
