Depends largely on what group you would want to join. Experience needed for structured finance would be much different than what is needed for corporate. What is your current situation, and are you more interested in structured, corporate, financial institutions, public finance, or sovereign?

Generally speaking (as I agree with Animal Spirits above), look for fundamental-analysis type roles. The rating agencies are fairly lenient on backgrounds from which they hire. Obviously, as an Investment Banker, you'd be a shoo-in, but backgrounds range from FP&A, to Risk, to Research, and to multitudes of front office roles including commercial banking.

At the junior level, you wouldn't be expected to know much and so your experience should just be focused on using excel and problem solving. Have a basic understanding of credit and show a passion for research-- that's really all they need to see. At the Senior level, a credit-focus, banking, or a research focus would be beneficial.
