A-to-A Sabbatical still a thing?

Hi everyone, just surveying the room since I don't have a lot of data points to go off of here. I work at a BB and am the last man standing from my analyst class (ie. the only one who stayed / received the associate promote).

I know in the past it was customary for analysts who were promoted to associate to get a 2-3 week paid leave, but my group was honestly really sweaty, so for the past 2.5 years I did not see any one else stay past A2 bonus. I recently got my stub bonus and I asked if this was a possibility, but my MD just said "good question let us find out for you."

Is it still reasonable to expect this / push for time off following the Asso promote? Or is this more a thing of the past. If anyone took time off, would be helpful to know how long you took

Thanks!!

I have heard this is a thing in a few buyside places and boutiques, but I don't know enough. The one I like the most is Partners Group, where they give you, like, a month or two off to chill.

The A-to-A sabbatical used to be a given, but it seems like it’s been fading out post-COVID. Some BBs and boutiques still offer it, but it really depends on the firm and group. JPM apparently still gives 4 weeks, while others cut it down or got rid of it altogether. If your MD is “looking into it,” that probably means it’s not standard anymore, but it’s worth pushing for—especially if you’re the only one who stuck around. Worst they can say is no.
