Accountants vs. Lawyers
Sorry for the title, but I noticed that most of the MDs at places like HLHZ and Close Brothers had backgrounds in law or accounting. Seeing as I graduated last Spring, an analyst stint at a restructuring shop is not a possibility but I would like to position myself for an associate position a few years down the line.
I went to college in the U.S. but I grew up in France so I would definitely like to shoot for firms in Europe (London). What do you think is the best background for someone trying to get in to a place like HLHZ? I'm planning on taking the LSATs in June but I'm also thinking of applying to Big 4 restructuring practices in London for the fall. Any suggestions?
As a 3L in law school, I can say that law is a long and expense road. Many restructuring lawyers do find their way to the finance side, but for you that would be 4+ years from now (to apply and finish law school) and that's pretty far out. Who knows what the market will be like or if your interests will change. I'd go the accounting route and network your butt off.
Thanks, I'm starting to get that impression. Is your name a reference to stalking horse bidders?
Yeah, that's the idea. It's sorta lame because stalking horse bidders don't win the deal, but it sounds hardcore nonetheless.
.
Do you have a permit to work in the UK, I rmb HLHZ didn't consider my app back then because I didn't have a work permit.
For HLHZ Europe try PMing a guy called plus1 in this forum... i think he once mentioned that he worked there....
