Advice for moving from a small town to bigger city

Hey everyone,

I'm going to be moving to D.C in a couple of months to start grad school.  I grew up in a small town in the south, went to a semi-urban area for college, and then moved back home after college to work, so I've never lived in a bigger city before.  For those of you who were in a similar situation, how did you adjust to living in a bigger city and what advice do you have?

Additionally, if anyone has any good suggestions for bars/restaurants in the D.C area, feel free to post them

I moved from a big city in the northeast to a small college town down south and the biggest thing I noticed is the change of pace from the NE and south. Up north, everyone usually has a destination and under time restrictions so people do things a lot faster, less street chit chat, etc. Down south I’ve noticed people take their time a lot more and are just going w the flow more so that leads to more conversations w strangers being started which I enjoy. You may consider people more standoffish or skeptical in the NE, some are definitely just dicks but for the most part people are always on the go and don’t take the time to slow down and appreciate things imo
