All this Fashion Talk

I want to know if anybody agrees with me on this...

It is generally accepted that brand and style do not really matter that much as an intern or analyst as long as you look professional and cleanly. However, on all the "fashion" posts so many people point out little details like "OMG those animal print ties are awful!" or "EWWW I would never get caught dead in Brooks Brothers" or "Pink ties are ridiculous" or "French Cuffs will get you fired at my office" or "Red ties lower your bonus at Morgan Stanley!"

I'm no style buff, but I think I present myself appropriately at work. However, when I read these "fashion posts" I can't help but think that whoever is posting them is that guy in my office that dresses horrendously. Everyone has there own style that fits them and listening to these people rant about brands and looks is stupid. Some people can pull off Ferragamo animal prints, while others look fine in something from Men's Wearhouse.

Personally, I don't think anyone should take these "fashion posts" seriously because the guy posting on the other end might be that idiot who looks way over the top trying to dress well or the guy who is jealous he doesn't have an extra $500-$600 for some nice loafers. I would never decide not to wear a nice tie or some bling to work because someone posted online that it was inappropriate. Conversely, I would never be embarrassed to wear an inexpensive suit (as long as it fit decently) because somebody said bankers must dress like ballers.

The criticism on Brooks Brothers is the most ridiculous. Most Americans would think Brooks is a high end brand and their stuff looks fine.

Maybe I have different viewpoint coming from a non-NYC office?

Thoughts?
