Am I Weak?

How do people react/respond when seniors make comments on your decks/models with a mistake you made that was so disgustingly stupid and obvious. Do you apologise, do you gaslight them? Don’t want to look weak but also want to make them aware that I have learnt from my mistake. ‘Sorry’ seems like I’m bitching out but not apologising doesn’t sit right.

Just say "sorry, my bad" and then add the mistake to your list of items you use to check stuff off before you send stuff. Literally make a written or printed list and add your mistakes to it and use it as a checklist. You will become very solid very quickly.

FYI this is 100% expected for juniors, you will make stupid mistakes - it's normal and just don't make the same mistake constantly.

Also just say "sorry, will fix asap!" or similar, nothing grinds my gears more than the people who make endless excuses, blame other people, or are rude when you give them comments. Not sure what being "weak" has anything to do with this, be humble and show you're doing your best to learn...

Hitting the desk FT in 2 months. Any tips you can share that I can add to my own list? Thanks a lot!

  • spell check every time
  • always print a version to check it, checking on computer is difficult
  • tie all numbers across the pages - 2025E EBITDA or P/E should tie from page 6 to page 7, calculate that the arithmetic math checks out
  • read all text from bottom bullet point up for typo / extra words
  • read footnotes carefully, check the # of footnotes tie
  • check page numbers
  • boxes should be aligned - do not do this manually

Add to this as you make mistakes

‘Sorry about that’ goes a long way. The inability to own your mistakes makes you look weak. Plus everyone has made them. I’ve reviewed work for people more senior due to them just wanting a second set of eyes.

Only two sources I trust, Glenn Beck and singing woodland creatures.
