I just wanted to share this with everyone. Apparently, new legislation in San Fransisco is aiming to require that fast food restaurants serve healthier food, else they won't be allowed to put a toy in with the happy meal. On the one hand, the government there is trying to fight obesity and make healthier kids. On the other hand, this seems to be a step over the line by forcing restaurants to comply with new health regulations. Should the government step up and force restaurants to serve healthier food? Or should parents raise their kids right and not bring them to McDonald's every night? Thoughts?

It's an interesting debate. I don't think the government has any business mandating what can go in a Happy Meal, but childhood obesity is an epidemic in America. Maybe some type of cigarette warning label should go on a Happy Meal box:
"Hey kid, if you eat the contents of this box you'll get fat and won't get laid until you're old enough to rent a hooker."
That's downright unamerican. I grew up on happy meals, and I'm probably in better shape than the people suggesting this law. The only regulation regarding happy meals that should be introduced should be concerning the quality of the toys. I can't believe the pieces of crap they put in those meals. I remember getting glossy boxes with the arch handles as a kid, and the toys were always money. We once went to Mcdonalds four weeks in a row to get these legos that combined into one huge plane, it was amazing.
GoodBread, you'll appreciate this. The toys they put in Happy Meals at the Quick here in Paris kick ass. I'm amazed by some the stuff my boys come home with. For fast food, it's way better than McDo's too.
I actually did a little research to see where Quick came from, and it turns out they bought all the Burger Kings when Burger King couldn't make it here in France.
Nice Quick reference Edmundo. I'm not a huge fan myself because the burgers are pretty small and expensive. The 280 at Mcdo is what I usually get when I'm in Paris. I never figured out why BK didn't work, there was even a petition going around a few years ago to bring them back (like that's going to work).
I prefer the Quick because the burgers are more like Jack In The Box (grilled sourdough, etc...). I'll buy the sliders at McDonald's for 1€ apiece, but that's about it.
I don't like government regulation of any kind. I don't care if it's to fight childhood obesity. This isn't supposed to be a nanny state, people can figure things out for themselves. A good government is a minimalist government. Let the people regulate themselves.

I couldn't possibly care less what the People's Republic of San Francisco legislates, but one would think that a state (a general comment about the state of California) that is totally bankrupt and nearing insolvency and has some of the worst unemployment in America would have better things to do with its time. States like California, Illinois, Michigan and New Jersey are microcosms of what an un-checked Democratic Party would bring to the federal government, as we're seeing right now with Obama.
Jersey's getting better my friend. We got a guy named Chris Christie in the governors office currently..remember that name in 2016.

Oh, I'm aware. He keeps it up and he's got my vote in 2016, but there was a guy like him in South Carolina recently who had my vote until he threw away his career for an Argentinian temptress. We shall wait and see.

Fast food is NEVER going to be good for you. God forbid people show a little common sense about what they eat.
Without a doubt, this comes down to parenting and educating youth about making sensible food choices. You can eat almost anything in moderation, and this is the message that needs to be conveyed. It is appalling that governments are taking time and resources to talk about issues like this when we are in terrible economic times. Don't punish the children of families who are making sensible decisions by getting a Happy Meal once every few weeks because of the obesity incurred by those who have made a Happy Meal an integral part of the food pyramid.
I have good memories about the occasional family trip to McDonalds.
But guys. Get real. You Americans are fucking obese. There was an FBI convention at my hotel last time I went to the US, and they were all fat. How do they protect America? By blocking moving staircases in airports so that terrorists can't reach security?
Seriously, if it takes some law-making to get you slimmer, so be it. Think about the children.
I think there should be a law against fat people with monetary penalties depending on how much you deviate from you optimal weight or how many roles you have compared to the Michelin man. that would solve that problem real quick.
