Another Motivating/ Inspiring Story

Since everyone seemed to enjoy the story about the Cornell soccer player turned investment banker who completed the Ironman with no training, I decided to share another sports story.

If you're a baseball fan, you may be familiar with Freddy Sanchez, who is currently playing in the World Series for the SF Giants. He was born with deformities in both of his feet. One foot was pigeon-toed and the other is a club foot, about half the size of a normal foot. Some doctors expected him never to be able to walk, although he was able to find surgery to correct the problems. He had to go through physical therapy during his youth before he was able to walk properly. He was never a big prospect by any team, although he worked extremely hard through community and then to a university to get his shot. He now holds a batting title, is one of the best second basemen in the game, and he could possibly be the 2010 World Series MVP.

In my opinion, the best part of his story is the fact that he embraces his differences. He embraces his nickname of "Clubby," and is one of the most generous athletes in sports. Since being traded from Pittsburgh, he is still involved in many of the charities he started and was involved in during his stint for the Pirates.

Personally, I'm rooting for the Giants, and hope to see Clubby holding the MVP trophy.
