Mega turn off!

Maybe a small one in a not noticeable area, that's all!

Like maybe a butterfly in between her toes where she shoots up.

Casually dating / hanging out - turn on

looking for future wife - mega turn off.. unless she’s hot and wealthy enough, and the tattoos are high quality and meaningful  (not just butterfly tramp stamp)

I used to date this girl with most of her body covered in tats with 3/4 sleeves. From like 10 feet away it looked kind of hot, but she got some of them done by shitty artists and I had mixed feelings about some of the lower quality pieces.

Everywhere all the time though guys and mainly girls would randomly come up to us and say “I love your ink” or something like that to her, which made her think her tats were awesome, but they weren’t all awesome.

Yeah all the celebrities and rappers look super poor.

do you find tattoos on women a turn on or a turn off and why?

If you're only okay with a few, what's your limit? If none at all, why not? Do you guys have any tattoos ?

Turn off, why? Because I find them to be ugly.

SafariJoe, wins again!

I think about getting one or two every so often, but never get around to it, but if I do it would be in an area like that so it's not visible when wearing work clothes, or even maybe a tshirt for that matter.

I am kind of old school here but I associate them with uneducated people and therefore it would be a turn off.   When I see a person with tats all over their body, I am thinking what is this person going to look like when they get much older.

100% turn off, and have ended things with girls before once discovering they have tattoos. It basically shows low impulse control and lack of longterm planning ability, as well as just a bad style sense. Of course the above are stereotypes, but the correlation is absolutely there. If you have tattoos you probably also are more prone to mood swings, less mature, abuse tobacco/alcohol regularly, etc. It come across as trashy, poor, and dumb - similar to exotic piercings

Not to sound all biblical but the human body is/can be pretty beautiful as is. Why mark it with some dumb design

Truth may sting but that's what makes it valuable. Sadly most places online where this discussion could take place (Twitter, Reddit, etc.) is full of 'x is beautiful!' no matter what coddling. Which seems nice but doesnt do you any favors.

High value guys generally dont date women with tattoos for all the reasons mentioned earlier.

This is the most sobering take I've ever read on this website. Good for you friend, funny enough, I know everyone deep down thinks and knows this to be the case, but of course, the internet makes it very easy to just "everything is beautiful" the situation and lie.

But make no mistake, this is the perspective that most high quality men hold.

I remember a few years ago seeing a Bentley with a "BUSH-CHENEY 2004" bumper sticker on it.

lots of boring squares on this thread - I shouldn’t be surprised.

"I'm the exception so everyone else who has one quality in common with me is just like me in the one quality that is convenient for my counterargument"

detrimentally ignorant take

I agree. Our field is already so fucking stiff and serious, so the total opposite attracts me. My gf has two high quality sleeves and is working on a piece on the side of her thigh. It’s hot asf

Lol, that’s what I’m saying bro. Literally me and most of my military friends have tattoos. I guess all my Special Forces, ACE, Ranger, Navy Seal, Air Force Para, Air Force pilot and etc. friends will all be poor or frowned down upon by some Vinyard Vine wearing square, who’s wife gets clapped up by their  poolboy or doorman. 🙄

Disclaimer I'm young and going into finance - I find a side-boob/ribs tattoo of something basic like a cool flower or something dainty very attractive. Somewhere where I know you don't have one but when you're in a bikini or letting loose and I see it then I think that's cool. For guys, I'd say the only people I know who have tattoos are traders, and typically they're good at what they do and not too client-facing anyways.

No, she's hot (minus the makeup and lip injections). In fact, everything unattractive about this girl is some way she modified her body, be it tattoos or surgeries.

The girl with her body covered, I'd give her a chance. Though it's unlikely we'd be a fit long-term. Also, IDK how well all those tats will hold up when she's 40 or 50. The other two examples I would consider if everything else about them was a fit.

Great topic and I'm loving all the replies. To be sure, I'm in complete agreement with the "tattoos are dumb" crowd and I'm far from the only one on here.

Question: I'm just outside the millenial range but its no secret that tattoos are very, very popular for millenials and gen z (and younger). So do you find that this cuts down your dating pool? I'm in a city that, well lets just say that it's not known for it's high education, so as soon as my dating profile has "no tattoos" in it, my chances of finding a match drop to virtually nothing. Do all of you find that too? In some parts of my city, you're the weird one for not having a tattoo and if you want to find a mate, forget about it, you're better off becoming a Bigfoot hunter.

Yeah, tats are pretty popular. There was there really hot girl in philosophy class that had like 15 of them (I know because she told everyone). Even girls I wouldn't expect to get tats have a small one. I go to a state school so perhaps a different crowd than at the targets but it's really common. Even my super nerdy asian friend from high school made an insta post about her new tattoo, it was a nice, anime inspired one but I still didn't expect her to get it.

I'm about 20 years removed from school but I completely get what you're saying. I've had very similar experiences with meeting women while out and around and it's frustrating to see that even the most unexpected women end up having a (usually more than one) tattoo.

Asian AND tatted? OMG, I would freakin' LOSE IT.

You're only as good as your options allow you to be. To some, wanting a girl with a college degree or a girl who doesnt have a baby from a previous relationship is difficult and cuts down their dating pool because they themselves cant command women with those qualities in the dating market.

If you find that it hurts your dating pool then you really have 3 options:

Option 1 - Be single, struggle with dating, and just complain about the quality of women/men these days (as you get older youll see plenty of people fall into this group). In the road of life this is basically just sitting still and staying put.

or

Option 2 - learn to be ok with it and remove it from your criteria. 'Settling' as some call it, but not really because if you were truly settling then you could trade up from this person easily.  This play isn't bad since you still get companionship, love, all that jazz and it's generally pretty easily. Another large swath of the population opts for this route. In the road of life this is just walking through a sunny field

or

Option 3 - Improve yourself until you can date women who meet that criteria. If you live in rural craptown that may mean move, though in any decent sized town youll have successful / top tier people. This is the option less traveled because it means work, which people hate, and brutal self reflection, which most people cant do. It's tough when getting turned down by a woman to look in the mirror and realize you aren't good enough. But by doing so you will be able to control your fate. Maybe you need a better job, maybe you need a better personality, or more interesting experiences - likely you could also add some muscle or lose weight. Whatever your shortcomings may be fix them and trust me you'll reap the rewards.  Very few go down this path as in the road of life it's more akin to climbing a mountain. But it's worth it

My gf has two tattoos. One below her boob and a more recent one on her calf. They’re both pretty hot on her despite being nothing sexually related.

Before dating her I had some more “conservative” opinions about tattoos, but now I realize that, like many of you, I just had a nice long stick up my ass.

One definitely doesn’t see fukcing nobility have them, so tattoos definitely have a poor people vibe. So why on earth are they perceived as cool? It’s just that 95% of the people here are don’t come from the rough part of the town. Nothing else.

HuskySized

most of the time it signals poor impulse control

You’re an idiot dude - you can’t generalize the permanent markings people put on their body. Some have poor impulse control, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they will hastily get a tattoo.

For one of my tattoos, I had a stamp chiseled into marble of my name in ancient Chinese. I didn’t decide to get it inked on me for 5 years after that. My tattoos are meticulously planned and took years of deliberation. Poor impulse control? No dude.

Turn off unless the girl wears a revealing blouse that shows side boobs and it has tatoos around that area

If da man Pizz says it is a turn off, ya gotta listen and take note.

For the guys saying that the tattooed women are "more interesting" or "cooler" or whatever, it assures these women that they'll always have their fans. But internet enjoyment aside, you'll find that in practice this "painting the human canvas" millennial view, like with over 90% of the generational catchphrases that get spewed online, are simply romantic witticisms that sound great to type out on an anonymous forum or put up on a Instagram caption that no one ever reads or takes seriously, but will fail hard as reality hits.

Over the long term these women's behavior is very self-correcting, just look up all the correlations between tattoos and pretty much every avoidable behavior you want to avoid in a long term partner.

Yes, "correlation does not equal causation," yet another theoretical perspective that severely fails to hold up in reality; as a quick heuristic, always assume correlation = causation, it'll work out more times than not. They're called stereotypes for a reason.

Deviating from the pack here but I definitely see it as a turn on. I see tattoos akin to how one may view spices on a dish. If done right it can definitely add flavor (or in the context of a girl boost her appearance). If done poorly, you wish there was no spice to begin with.

To me "done right" means that the tattoos need to be done well and look nice, not just got to fill up space. Also, definitely would prefer tats contained to the arms/legs/back. Face/neck never looks good. Front is difficult to get aesthetically right although it can work.

It depends on the context of the tattoo, but still likely a turn-off.

If a potential partner (1) was in a military unit, (2) went into combat with said unit, and (3) got a simple shoulder tattoo of the platoon/company/battalion/etc., I don't think that's a turn-off.

However, 99% of tattoos I've seen aren't like that and have dumb contexts (e.g., a heart-tattoo with 2 arrows piercing it because "my ex cheated on me twice" or a spider-web tattoo because "I'm a seductress"). These tattoos are an absolute turn-off because they indicate a lack of (un)common sense as well as poor judgement.

In any case, the above is for dating/marriage. For less permanent engagements (e.g., one night, 4 or 5 nights, etc.) I'm pretty agnostic.
