Are you street?

I almost got mugged a few days back and that scared the shit out of me, all this "strategic career planning", "thinking wisely before making moves", "networking", "making informed choice" etc etc were useless at that time and I felt really inadequate. You had any such instances? Did you kick the shit out of the guy? Are you street enough to tackle problems like these?

Banker88Just give them your wallet and phone and back away. That's the upside of making more money than most people- not caring if you get mugged.

Agreed. You may feel violated and like less of a man, but you generally can't do shit to anyone who is armed and stupid enough to do something like that. These people just really don't have much to lose, you have much more to lose so lose your ego and keep your life/scarless face/ability to use your legs. Imagine getting mugged, trying to act like a tough guy and getting shot in the spine. For the rest of your life you will wish you just gave the guy your money and went on about your life.

If you're not the one getting mugged however, its far easier to stop the situation, assuming the guy doesn't have a gun and you've got the balls to intervene. Just sucker punch him in the face and choke the son of a bitch with your belt.

One good tactic is the fake wallet... You carry a fake wallet with cards a few dollars whatever something that look somewhat legit. In this mugging situation you hand it over and split the scene on foot. Not many muggers will chase a guy after he's handed over his wallet.

I went to a prep highschool in a really bad urban neighborhood and this was employed by some kids that use public transit regularly.

P.S. If this seems really cowardly to anyone you are a moron because it works well and you will live to see tomorrow. I have competed in bodybuilding and can hold my own in a fight but this type of scenerio is not the time to act tough.

Just give up you're wallet. There is a BIG difference from being "tough" and being a fool. Who cares about a wallet with some cards you can cancel in 2 seconds as soon as the scum bag leaves.

Home field advantage.

On the street you are playing an away game in a hostile stadium. The mugger is a loser who has lost on every other field, school , life, career, etc etc. So minimize the game on his home field. Here you are at a big disadvantage. Minimize loss and hand over your goods. One game isn't the season

What I mean to say is, don't get your ego involved in trying to win that away game with the mugger. You have already won a thousand games to zero with respect to the mugger and his kind. So he wins a small one by getting your wallet, big deal. Don't turn it into a big loss by risky ego driven behavior. This is the best "street" advice I can give you, I've been there.

Learn Krav Maga. It works.

But remember that in Krav Maga the first thing to do is to avoid any harm, so if he had a weapon or something the best decision was to give im the money.

Now if he tries to hurt you or something, you just kick him, punch him 'till he falls, then run!
