Bad idea for an interview?

Would this be inappropriate in an interview, I'm thinking objectively, how to get the best impression of me across to them, and was considering these 2 aspects.

1) Request a certain style of interviewer. A couple of points i want to make would help if someone understood the background i was drawing similarities from. e.g. poker or chess player etc.

2) When they ask, "Do you have any questions for me?" Say: What are you biggest reservations about me? Possibly a bit smartass, but if taken honestly then maybe there's been a miscommunication that both sides would like cleared up.

Thoughts?

1.) Would make you seem like a total prima dona if you barge into the interview making demands. The whole point of the interview is that it's largely luck of the draw, there's SUPPOSED to be an element of unknown when you go in. Also, what if they don't have someone of that background and you look like a fool for making assumptions? What if they have a person with that background and he played at a MUCH higher level than you did, thereby thinking you're just smalltime and ridiculous for asking? Honestly, this is a very surprising question coming from a chess/poker player as I see very little upside given the risk.

2.) This is something I actually tried for a number of interviews early on in recruiting season. Let me tell you that this question WILL NOT work the way you think it will. Often, I would ask the interviewer this question, even after I had had a killer interview, and the interviewer would tell me "nothing," I would leave the interview with a big shit-eating grin and not get the offer. I was completely confused by this after the first couple times but later realized two things: people are NOT going to be honest when given a question like this and this question does nothing but bring up the negative aspects of your interview in the last moments of the interview. Though it was likely for other reasons as well, when I stopped asking this question, I had a lot more success as far as actual offers go.

Thanks NR, a slightly more indepth response is appreciated.

The examples I gave are not the ones I want to use. A couple of companies I want to apply for mention strategy games as a good thing to have. I am very high up in the world rankings of a couple of games that I play. If I wanted to draw an analogy, or relate to a skillset that is mirrored in both, or just give an example, it would really help if the other guy had a ****ing clue what i'm on about.

The other aspect was for science. I'm a heavy physics background, and again want to draw a parallel between that and some things I'd like shown in an interview. If the guy talking to me did Art literature at Brown, it's going to be a waste of everyone's time.

Regarding the second point, the number of times i've come out of interviews thinking, i wish i'd had the opportunitiy to mention that, but the question never came up, and I'm looking for a way of getting them in, without just stating it randomly.

trazer, entirely out of curiosity, what is your USCF rating?

Also, I second what Nouveau Richie said about your 2nd idea - I have also tried a similar approach in interviews, and never got the desired response. I sometimes phrase it as "Are there any particular weaknesses in my candidacy that I can address?" but as I said, never really worked well.

I'm not really a chess player, I was strong when younger but switched at 14 to bridge, where i played at the international level. (not US). It's just annoying if you want to discuss something advanced in one of these games, you could have missed a huge opportunity if the guy opposite you has no clue what you're on about, but the guy that could have taken the interview but didnt would understand completely.

Alas, play the hand i'm dealt it seems.

Ironically, I once applied to my dads company (senior partner big 4) we kept the application hidden from everyone concerned, so i'd get in on my own merit, and i failed in the last round, my answer to the question "Who is your most influential contact" was one I couldnt answer honestly, and I'm a bad liar. I explained the situation to the HR lady on the phone and there was a really really awkward silence. Hoping to find ways to avoid a repeat if possible.

The only two things worse then these ideas are.

1) Wearing a tux to your interview.

2) Bringing along your buddy to interview with you.

On a completely different side note. Its also not a good idea to act like you are sick in front of the tv cameras mocking a 7 foot German guy who just lit your ass up for 21 point while he had a fever of 102 the game before.

Completely agree. What fucking morons. I had huge respect for Dwyane Wade previously but wow, has that ever changed. They're digging a deeper hole for themselves. I just dont see what they are trying to achieve. Their 'fans' suck, the place is empty until the 2nd quarter, so why alienate everyone? The 'me against the world' mentality is played out.

And let me add, hit the game winner yet again.
