Being 24 (or over)

I'm guessing a few of you've seen this, but in case:

You guys feel the same way? Well, most of it? I too turned 24 this year and it's kinda weird to think about it, could've worn I was a freshman in high school like 5 years ago (turns out - more like 9-10 yrs ago...)

To the guys older than 24, how best can someone like me really make the most of his years? What did you do?

Advice: - Live your own life. Set your own goals & priorities. - Stay true to yourself... always. - Travel more... See the world... Challenge yourself... Leave your comfort zone... - Live now... it's not the destination, it's the journey... don't be on the deferred life plan... - Have more than one focal point in your life... family, friends, private life, hobbies, money, work, etc...

Most importantly... Don't be a pussy...

Ditto what I wanted to suggest you.

24 can be a dangerous age. I did something when I was 24 that changed the course of the rest of my life. I go into detail in my book, but the long and short of it is that my firm did something to fuck my clients and I got pissed and set the firm up to lose a bunch of money. My head was still all fucked up from the war and my alcoholism was pretty out of control, so I wasn't thinking straight.

I figured my little stunt would cost the firm a couple hundred grand and I'd be fired immediately, which would satisfy my desire for revenge and solve the problem of working for a firm I hated at the same time. It didn't work out that way, the loss went over ten million, and I found myself on the run in Mexico and the far east for the next 13 months while my firm came after me for the dough.

In that time, however, I figured a lot of things out about what I really wanted in life. It took a year of laying on the beach in Mexico and sailing in the West Pacific to get my head straight and to give me the impetus to come back and really kick some ass. And for those curious, the firm I worked for got acquired by another firm and the whole dust-up (which was a pretty big embarrassment to management) just went away.

Congratulations, you just sold me a book.

yeah i can totally relate. when i was 24, i bought an xbox to keep myself occupied during a brief period of unemployment. playing halo for those three months was pretty intense... i might even write a book about it.

I'm kind of looking forward to being 24. I'll be making more money and still be somewhat good looking. Plus, at 24 you still have 6 more years left to enjoy your life.

Just turned 25 and I'm stoked. I've got my whole life ahead of me. Your life doesn't even realyy start until you're 21/22 for most people, 18 for some, earlier for others. I'm just starting to realize how much awesome stuff there is to do that doesn't include getting fucked up.

Congrats on making it to manhood, now be a fuckin man.

To preface my original post, I'm 24 and doing pretty well as a senior-ish consultant at one of the top firms (think half a rung below MBB). I have a solid take home and my life is pretty sweet. I just wonder about that eternal question that TED videos and shit keep getting you to think about - doing something where your passion truly lies. I think mine might be in writing/broadcasting/media on sport, haha. But I'm confused. At what point do I seriously think about throwing my current career (and potentially life, as I might then have to relocate) and pursue a difficult dream?

Yeah, just made it more complicated. If anyone has advice, am all ears (well, eyes).

And Edmundo, let us know about that book launch buddy.

TechBankingIf you work in finance and live in NYC, 24-30 should likely be one of the best/most fun parts of your life. You are completely out on your own, you are making decent money, and you are living in one of the best cities in the world. The world is your oyster, enjoy it.
i love this, dawgg. makes me work harder 2 get there.

I will turn 25 this summer but I was gifted with good genes and look younger than my age. I do feel old despite my younger face. When I count the numbers, I sometimes feel like I won't have time to do all the things that I want to do in life. I know that it is all in my mind so I try to focus less on the number.

As someone said, look forward to the journeys of your life. Don't defer your goals. It is foolish to postpone enjoyment of your ordinary life until you are more successful, more secure, or more loved than you are today.

Go see the world, take a vacation with friends whenever you can, be wild, be cautious, and be thankful for life. If you are young, you have a job, you have no serious physical illness that limit your movement, you are surrounded by friends and have a great family, you got lot of reasons to enjoy your life.
