Best part of city to get apartment in with office in Midtown out of college? What should I pay? (an1 at a bb for ref)

Really any opinions would be appreciated. Included position for salary reference as I’m really not sure what ppl are paying. Appreciate the knowledge and happy hump day fellas

Midtown is a huge swath of Manhattan. West side, east side, close to the park, basically Murray Hill? Look at the subway maps and tell us what subways you are near. It's way easier to go north/south than it is to go east/west. ideally you live a few blocks from a subway line that's a direct shot to your building.

Assuming your base is $110k, the max you will get approved for is $2,750. That will get you a REALLY shitty studio in this market, so unless your parents are funding a $4k+ one bedroom I would have at least one roommate. Call it $2-2.5k budget.

If you can give a little more specificity on office location happy to give you some starting points on area. Realistically the way the market's been the last few years (bidding wars, things renting within hours with no showings) you shouldn't have your heart set on a specific neighborhood but good to start looking now to see what things cost.

Might be out of your price range still. Looking on StreetEasy the studios really seem to start at $3k. LIC is fine if you're close to subway but don't want to be more than a block or two which the cheaper ones are - LIC is less walkable than Manhattan, and it's safe but can be a little desolate.

Problem with LIC is that you really won't have much of a social life, going to downtown Manhattan can take a solid 45 minutes. I know work is the priority but it's fun to be in Manhattan the first year so you have some semblance of a social life. I would recommend getting a roommate year 1 (ideally someone also in IB so they're not around much either) and then reevaluating if you want to live in Manhattan or LIC year two. It will also hurt your dating prospects if you care about that - stupid, but true.

If a studio is a must have, you might be able to stay under $2.5k in Manhattan (UES, UWS, parts of Midtown) but it will be a dump - IMO would be my choice over an equally dumpy one in LIC, it's not like you are in LIC luxury at that price. $2.5k with a roommate would get you a somewhat nice building.

I’d say East Village or West Village depending on what side you’re on.

West village probably too expensive for recent grads, But I live in the east village and it's great. Can definitely find a 1 bedroom for ~2700 or a 2 bedroom for 4200

Yeah I actually prefer the East Village. I think it is grungier and cooler. I lived on 6th and B in a true 4BR for a few years - was a blast.
