Blade - Helicopter
Didn't want to Hijack the guy complaining about Blade. But has anyone ever used it? Seems kind of worth it for the airport, and would love to price out a trip to AC and Back or something of the sorts.

Worth it if you fly more than 8-10 times a year imo. Worth is relative, but when I have flights at rush hour around ~5pm, the Uber ride to JFK/EWR is fucking unbearable vs Blade. It's all about how much you value convenience and your time.
Not sure about the non-airport side. I remember getting a marketing email about how they were offering chartered helicopter rides to pick up kids from summer camp for parents that didn't have the time (for like $4k a seat). some rich ass mfs out there
Why is it tied to number of flights? Thought you could do a one off for $200
There's a "Blade Pass" you can buy that gives a discount on each flight, but only worth if you fly a certain amount of times. At the discounted rate, it is comparable to pricing that Uber might charge you, which means Blade wins as the travel time is far less.
IMO:
As a fixed wing pilot, no fucking way I'm getting in a helicopter, especially over NYC.
As someone who studied aerospace engineering in college and was taught by some rotorcraft designers, I second this.
genuinely curious as to why? I generally understand that helicopters creates lift by basically beating the air into submission. Is it b/c of too many points of failure (airplane engine fails you can glide into safety, can't do that with helicopters)? Why specifically over NYC? B/c of all the buildings or how they affect the aerodynamics?
There is autorotate for helos
I grew up in a family of aviators. There is a joke about helicopter pilots:
Q: You know how you can tell if one is a good helicopter pilot?
A: If they’re alive.
hahahaha
