Can a finance degree be taught in one equation?

The more I contemplate this question, the more I realize that an undergraduate finance degree can really be taught in one equation. The PV of future cash flows.

Thoughts on this? Most additional learning comes from reading from professionals or gaining first-hand experience alongside a mentor/professional. This also only concerns an undergraduate degree.

What? No.

Stop contemplating.

"Personofwalmart" Knew exactly what equation your were going to list before I even opened this so I'm guna go with yes.

Any finance degree taught in one equation is likely a shittier degree than U of Phoenix.

Unless you derive that equation over 6-8 semesters with the cost of capital explained, and discount rate, microeconomics and macroeconomics, then you’re almost back to a full finance degree.

Whatever way you slice it, a finance degree is designed to provide one with the tools for analysis or to obtain maximum profits for a company or value.

Finance isn’t about learning things in one fell swoop to brag or that you went 3/3 in the CFA exams in 18 months. The heart of finance is what you do with these tools, not that it was possible to learn in one equation. You have a degree from X Y or Z University or learned your degree in one equation. Great. Now how are you going to leverage this for max value and profits?

How much would a one formula finance degree cost? Probably $50 bucks and comes with free celebratory graduation kazoo.

I knew the formula you would say also. I mostly agree, as long as the implications of that formula are understood deeply. Iterations of the formula are used for IRR/NPV, if you can grasp these and recognize that cashflows and timing impact profitability, anything else is just more background and detail to understand real world examples. At least we didnt study humanities.
