Dismantling whiteness

In the era of Black Lives Matter, we should all be concerned about institutional racism, white privilege, systemic oppression, white supremacy, internalized racism etc. Fortunately the National Museum of African American History & Culture offers to educate us on the matter, with key authors such as recent best seller Robin D'Angelo (expert on white fragility) and Peggy McIntosh.

So,what exactly should be fighting against to create and I quote an ''equitable, fair and just society''? d t

Bro, don't you have something better to do? You aren't from, nor live in the US. Why are you so obsessed with it? Is your home country that shitty you think the US is the best country out there?

"These people tread on me and everything I believe in" good god

Bro, your country produces more of this crap than it consumes, hence feels the need to shove it down everyone else's throat. EU declares 'Black Lives Matter,' condemns racism https://www.dw.com/en/eu-declares-black-lives-matter-condemns-racism/a-…

So, stop ruining other people's countries and I will stop complaining about yours. You want a global community? Good, then your business is my business.

We all know you think the simple act of condemning racism is something that treads on you and "everything you believe in."

You don't need to make threads about it.

Controversial
"neink"I think we should move beyond avoiding conflict and being polite.

Dude, shut the fuck up.

You aren't American. You don't live in America. No one is treading on you because you are not even around to be tread on. You're not interested in discussion. You're not interested in intelligent debate. You're just a "culture warrior" troll who posts unprompted nonsense in a bad faith attempt to create and escalate conflict in the Off Topic Forum.

You have never once "avoided conflict" and you are rarely if ever polite. You do, however, actively make WSO a worse place for liberals, conservatives, and the vast majority of people who don't care about politics at all.

Ladies and gentleman, the leading liberal voice on the board.

Not a single word condemning the insanity of his crowd. He blames the messenger. This is how liberals are.

It is not on me or anyone else to "condemn" an infographic, whether you think it was created by "my crowd" or otherwise. This isn't cable news.

I'm not accidentally attacking the messenger here instead of the message. I am purposefully condemning you, because I consider the WSO community "my crowd," and you are actively making it worse.

Already replied a billion times. If this shit wasn't exported on the other side of the pond, I could ignore it. I wish I could ignore it, like preppers or other bizarre habits.

Besides, if you really think that I'm a bigger problem that the OP becoming a core of the Democrat platform, then I'm happy to tell you to enjoy the gulag.

I cannot speak for all black people, just the ones I know. if she interviewed them, she wouldn't have made this poster. this poster is hilarious. I don't know a single black person who would agree that all of those are uniquely "white" aspects.

all it tells me is I must have been born into an oreo family where delayed gratification, being polite, not discussing personal life, and the scientific method are valued. for that, I guess I'm part of the problem.

I'm so fucking tired of white guilt, get over yourselves. focus on solutions, not making everything about race and telling us how bad you feel for being white, Peggy. we don't need a poster, we need review of bad sentences from the 80s, we need police transparency, we need better funding for shit schools.

You and me both brother. It must be our parents' faults for instilling moral values in us. My black father instilled many of those points in the data sheet to me when I was growing up, the blame must be on him then.

The irony of this is that the vast majority of the woke crowd are upper class whites.

Edit: as recently evidenced in the protests, even in overwhelmingly black areas, the vast majority of protesters were whites. https://f.hubspotusercontent40.net/hubfs/4309344/MW%20Protester%20Demog…

So, maybe white liberals should stop pretending to know what's best for everyone?

Stop. Not all people think alike. There’s some ridiculous people on the left as there are ridiculous people on the right. If we compared extreme groups we’d get nowhere. This isn’t binary, it’s not sports “Oh my football team is better than yours”. The discussion is a lot nuanced- which you’re obviously not interested in.

Pre Trump I’ve been a Republican, mostly voting republican just because I really believed in a smaller government and more fiscal responsibility (not that they’ve done that in hindsight). I’m not even a liberal. I’m a moderate. Just because I don’t support Trump and heavily disagree with most of his supporters doesn’t mean I’m a far left liberal either.

I’m pretty sure he Is similar to me on this as well. After reading his comments, saying he’s liberal is pretty ridiculous. Maybe he’s moderate leaning left at most.

It boils down to this: you can’t take an extreme point and paint a broad brush with it.

If I reposted some neo Nazi bullshit about other races being inferior and said “all Trump supporters think bringing back slavery is what America needs” you’d easily say- “No, actually that’s just some crazy fuck saying some bullshit”. Same with this. Is it that hard to comprehend that just because someone doesn’t think exactly like you, that they aren’t all actively against you? Not that they would be as others have posted- you’re not even being affected by this

The difference being, David Duke and Richard Spencer do not get to teach in universities, nor influence administrations, nor teach kids, nor make hiring policies, no police the internet of what they believe is correct speech, nor get promoted by the main right wing media, nor get invited in sports events.

This also goes for the ''you aren't afftected by this''. We all are.

But to the very least, thanks for admitting ''wow this is bullshit and I don't believe any of this'', something that apparently many libs aren't able to do, starting with him

A few things:

  • Who do you think has been influencing Americans lately? Frankly, both sides. Just look at the FBI charts on hate crimes since Trump was elected (especially the dramatic spike in those targeted at Jewish people). Not saying he’s the only bad guy here, but it’s not a one way street.

  • He did in fact say that it was ridiculous. I read his comment. Scroll up.

  • @Milton Friedchickenman" summed it up very well below. There’s ridiculousness on both sides of the spectrum. This is an example of the left being stupid, without encompasses all (or even a majority) of those leaning left

If I could give 1 SB and 1 MS I would.

SB for pointing out how stupid some people have become defining characteristics of any thriving and functioning society as being "white" and rejecting it.

MS for not seeing that it's only a certain, significant but not the majority, part of the modern liberals who actually believe in this crap. Plenty of bigots on both sides. This is why I call you out on being a hypocrite sometimes. It's easy to see the faults of the people on the other end, but you're blind to the faults of your own side.

Just like how easy it is for the liberals to only see the openly racist, heartless part of the conservatives, it's easy for conservatives to only see the socialist and self-destructive part of the liberals.

I'm aware. My post was half sarcastic. A huge number of those elements are key ingredients for a successfull society... anywhere. Sure you can replace Christianity with Confucianism and change a bit of other flavours with relatively small impacts but hard word? Clear and linear thinking? Family structure? Objectivity?
