Do people in finance have an interest in it?

Wondering out of curiosity if an interest in finance is required to succeed as it is in many other fields such as medicine, engineering, law, etc.

For example, doctors go through 8 years of schooling after high school as well as 4 years of low-paid residency before they actually "start" their career, so if you're planning on becoming a doctor, you better be interested/passionate in what you do.

Engineering students have a shit ton of work, and drop out rates are usually the highest in engineering or hard science related fields. Without an interest in this field, you'd crushed by the work or bored out of your mind.

Lawyers have to go through 100k+ debt in T-14 schools, 3 years of extra schooling and most of their life is paperwork so interest is also a big requirement if you want to pursue law.

Is it the same for finance? Do many of the people you come across go into finance or related jobs only for the money or do they have some interest? There seems to be a disproportionate amount of people who into finance only for the money compared to other professions. Money is obviously a great motivator but deciding your entire future on money seems like a bad idea. Also, why does finance seem to have the most people looking for money? Don't law and consulting pay close to the same as IB?

you don't have to really care about the field, just be super competitive, anxiety and self-esteem issues will make sure you work yourself to the top!
