Do your co-workers whine a lot?
Anybody else get frustrated when they are sitting at their desk and coworkers are complaining about how tough their week has been or how much of an idiot their associate are? I hate "I had to stay until 3am last night" battles, but sometimes I want to smack some of the attention seekers who are too busy feeling bad for themselves that they don't realize some of us have it worse.
Do other people share these frustrations?
(Yes, I realize the hypocricy of my ranting about people who rant).
Actually, I tend to find it comforting. First, it lets me know that I'm not alone in my frustrations. Second, it gives me an opportunity to make my co-workers feel good by listening to their troubles and acknowledging their problems and feelings. Then they tend to turn around and show some support for me later on.
This can be a miserable business. Coworkers can be allies or mere annoyances. For many of them (i.e., the ones that aren't naturally annoyances) I prefer allies.
I find that whining brings negative energy to you. Yeah, I'm tired, but I go shoot a friend an email or text. I don't complain about it in the office for fear of someone using it against me later.

I think it's perfectly fine to let your guard down once in a while, but overall, it's important to have a positive attitude, even if you're running low on sleep. Just keep on chugging along.
I find that really negative people who bitch and moan about everything tend to make terrible coworkers, and being staffed with someone like that is an utter disaster.
