Does your company allow you to WFH overseas?
Just curious, I've heard many cases in London and NY that large companies won't allow it's employees to work from home from another country.
Any specific reason for it? I get that if you work for long enough might raise a tax issue, but for, let's say ,2 months shouldn't be a problem?
Curious about this one as well.
Also curious. A friend faced that issue today (request to work from another country for a few weeks rejected by HR). Don’t really understand it thought I assume there is some legal / tax related risk for the company.
Most of the times, you're not allowed to work overseas because of legal and cyber risks. In consulting, clients usually sign contracts and demand that consultants work in the designated offices/countries so that data is secured. Especially for global firms, clients don't want their data to be shared with people in offices in like Russia or sth. It's understandable given that even many big banks got hacked.
Agree - it is something related with corporate risk rather than taxes (if it's a short term request). Funny though, this rule doesn't apply at MD/senior level, as I find out today that few directors from other groups are doing WFH in Europe.
