Exits are definitely not the same

Comp generally widens as you gain seniority

Non-US ER is big depression

I'm gonna go ahead and bet that if OP thinks ER is paid the same or close to the same as IB then he's in a very hot sector like biotech. Because this is generally not true, especially as you get more senior (even base pay noticeably diverges).

That said, in my junior years, here in London. I've not been paid that much worse than my IB peers on average. That gap definitely will start to widen.

In addition exits are not even close to the same lol

Love how people cite that the pay gap "widens" as you go up as if 90% of IB people don't leave well before senior associate if not earlier. Whereas I'm sure a far larger % of ER folks stay on longer.

One might argue exit opps but again what % of PE Associates are continuing in the industry after 2 years?

Also for whatever reason IB and PE attracts the worst kind of egos/behavior/toxicity/work attitude. Ask someone if they would rather work for a boss who was formerly in IB & PE or ER. There's your answer

As someone who has done banking, ER is better.

Long term it may be but long term a ton of careers are better than IB. Most people who go into IB go into it with a plan to quit in 2-3 years and are just going for the initial bump in experience. Not sure how many people do that in ER but that already makes the two very difficult to compare.

Because some people want to do PE and ER has a worse shot at that than Corp Dev. Not that I can understand it. PE fucking sucks bro.
