How to get reservations tho?
Queens neighobrhoods like Astoria and Flushing on average have much better food than the overpriced crap you find in Manhattan. As someone who grew up in the NYC area, I purposely avoid those influencer hyped restaurants on the Manhattan island.
Years ago, I took a first date to one and the food was overly fancy (Thai). She ended up getting sick from it and I never got that second date lol.
Name a couple of places
Bahari in Astoria. the flushing places are dives you don't want to take your midwestern parents
Just Salad, Chipotle, Cava, Sweetgreen, Dos Toros
Most people here will be spending 90% of their dinners in the office lol
I went to Jean Georges years ago and thought it was good. It was 3 Michelin stars when I went.
I went to Grammercy Tavern with my ex for his birthday. we ate outside because it was nice then. only inside has a star. It was overrated, OG mission chinese was better
Subs are unreal here. Get the East Side Ink. On 6th and B. I used to drunk dial Sunny's number and get him to make me subs at 4:30am. LOL
Oh also there is a BLT with sprouts and avocado that is really good.
caracas arepa barthis place is great, but I have only been to their East Village location which is now closed, but they are good.
I think a place you gotta check out at least one is Katz's. Overpriced? Yes. Incredibly long wait during rush hour? Also yes. Does anything even come close? Nope.
Pastrami on Rye with Mustard or Russian dressing is a classic New York Dish.
I recommend Hop Kee for some really lowkey and authentic Cantonese food. First dish my parents ate when they came to America in the 1980's.
For drinks, I think Please Don't Tell is a pretty good choice, albeit one of the hardest reservations to get in the city. Dear Irving is sort of a chain but they have pretty good drinks and small plates. Also Tigre, Fig 19, Ligaw, Basement(under Chinese Tuxedo), are all places I like to grab a drink at.
For Italian food, you'll have to make the trip up to the Bronx. Bit of a hike if you live downtown, but it's worth it. Little Italy is kind of shit at this point.
If you take the Queens-bound 7 train, you'll end up in Woodside, Queens. Nicknamed little Manila. I recommend checking out the places there.
For quick bites, I mean halal food carts are underrated. Don't knock the chicken over rice until you try it. Don't go to one that doesn't have the prices posted, and always pay cash. If you do end up going to one, just ask how much a plate costs. If it's anything over 11 bucks, don't get
