For people who hire undergrads

Maybe I the answer is already obvious but I’m curious. Given that you’re in charge of picking between two candidates for a position, and that they have relatively the same stats/ECs (leadership, GPA, test scores, experience, etc.) but one goes to a t10 or t25 while the other goes to a non-target (t100 with broad placement)—who would get the job?

Obviously I’m the one at the non-target, and feel that the answer would be the target school student. Being at a non-target I have a fear that I’d be a victim to this in some way as I believe I could set myself to be a competitive applicant w/ an okay network too (although mainly because of relatives).

So I guess what I’m asking is how I can go even further to set myself apart? Or maybe I’m just overthinking it or it’s just chance?

Sincerely,
One of you
