"Good ideas"

Any time I see a post with a title "Is this a good idea" or something like that, I unconsciously give the contents of the post about a 5% chance of actually being a good idea.

"Is it a good idea to send a singing telegram to a contact I only met once at a networking event? Home or office?"

In fairness, this is a question and answer forum, so people should feel free to post their questions, but honestly, if you're asking other people if something is a good idea, then you probably are asking yourself the same question. And if you're asking yourself, then you probably don't think it's a good idea when you really come down to it.

I would generalize your statement and say that a lot of the questions have answers that are obvious, whether that is yes or no. It's true that some fall in the region of plain common sense, but others have more to do with knowledge about etiquette/practices etc. that aren't equally obvious to people on different levels.

Besides, college career centers often provide stupid advice cause they're filled with HR-type people with no actual experience in a relevant field, let alone finance, one of the most competitive industries with one of the busiest people on earth who just don't have the time to read your elaborate, elegant, passionate letter. From time to time someone will show up who listens to their "career advisers" too much, and that's when you get questions like that.
