How do you manage your laundry?

Hi monkeys,

I'm curious about how those of you who work in IB/PE or another demanding job manage your laundry and ironing. I've done it myself so far, but with the limited free time I'm gonna have, I'd much rather pay to get this done well and actually enjoy my free time.

UM, I'm in AM, so my hours are less but I just throw wash on when I leave for work - move to the dryer when I get home. The building has laundry service but I like ironing for stress relief.

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

With the amount of WFH, the amount of business focused laundry has been reduced. I still wear shirts for video calls, but no longer formal pants. The suit jacket is no longer needed when WFH. My socks are no longer the formal type at home, but the sports type.

My leisurewear/athleisure laundry has increased though, but I don't tumble dry or iron them.

Are you in nyc? Do you have a doorman?

When I was working mostly in office and longer hours I used a service. Very convenient if you have a doorman. Just drop the bag off with the front desk, use the app to schedule a pickup, and they drop it off in 1-3 days (depending on service and if you pay for expedited service). It is nice since you can drop off all your clothes (dress shirts but also workout/casual clothing). It is obviously more expensive than doing it yourself

A more expensive option is if you have someone who cleans your apt, some will also do laundry (for an up charge). That won’t handle dry cleaning, but is very convenient as everything gets folded and put back in your closet (but again, will be more expensive).

Also based in London. There are several dry cleaners that offer a same-day option (for shirts, not suits). I usually leave them on Saturday morning and pick them up in the afternoon. Very convenient for me as I'm generally in the office by 8am mon-fri and most dry cleaners only open at 9am.

For underwear and similar stuff I just do all the washing on Saturday/Sunday as they normally don't require any ironing

Do you WFH at all? I always do it on WFH days, not like I'm leaving the house. If you're in NYC sending out laundry gets pretty pricey, and I've found they don't usually handle it well (i.e. washing delicate items on hot, putting air dry items into max heat dryer)

You guys really need to get those heat tech self dewrinkle shirts. I wash when I get home - laundry bucket is full. Dry when I pass by it. And then for suits I hit the dry cleaner. Sheets I clean them per 2 weeks, pillow case every 5 days with the laundry. I also iron as a habit. I am no bitch that can't handle my shit.

Funniest

Step 1. Put dirty clothes in washer.

Step 2. Put Tide Pod in washer (I know it looks delicious, but don't eat it).

Step 3. Hit "Start."

Step 4. Immediately forget you put laundry in.

Step 5: When getting ready for work realize all your clothes are wrinkled and still soaked.

Step 6: Show up to the office in an old Hawaiian button-up and joggers.

Step 7: Get fired, partly because you ask too many stupid questions, partly because you're dressed like my dad on vacation.

Step 8: Now you have all the time in the world for laundry, enjoy.
