How early can I move to NYC as a new grad

title.
Dec 25 Graduate. Incoming FT in July. Crashing at my parents for the moment. Want to move to NYC soon. Will landlords be okay with me moving in March? My PA is ripping, got 100k saved.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, moving to NYC in March as a new grad with a strong financial position (like your $100k savings) is definitely feasible. Landlords in NYC typically care more about your ability to pay rent than the exact timing of your move-in. Here are some key points to consider:

  1. Lease Start vs. Move-In Date: Many landlords are flexible with move-in dates as long as the lease starts on the agreed date. For example, you could sign a lease starting in March but delay your actual move-in by a few weeks if needed.

  2. Financial Stability: With $100k saved, you’re in a strong position to demonstrate financial security, which landlords will appreciate. This can help you secure a lease even if you’re not yet earning a full-time salary.

  3. Timing Considerations: Moving in March gives you a few months to settle in before starting your full-time role in July. This can be a great time to explore the city, network, and get comfortable with your new environment.

  4. Rental Market: The rental market in NYC can vary by season. March is typically less competitive than summer months, so you might find better deals or more options.

Make sure to check with landlords about any specific requirements, such as proof of income or guarantors, even though your savings should suffice in most cases.
