Most of us have either read Bringing Down the House: The Inside Story of Six M.I.T. Students Who Took Vegas for Millions or seen 21, the movie version of the book. It's the tale of a bunch of MIT nerds who crushed Vegas by counting cards and playing team blackjack. But how can you pull the same thing off by yourself? This guy has cracked the code, and it's all about what happens in the casino before you sit down to play. I find this stuff really fascinating. And it doesn't all come down to math. It's actually an old story, since I recall reading an article about it a while back. Absolutely fascinating case of someone clever exploiting genuine, honest-to-god "edge" by "picking the dealer off". To be fair, the "dealers" in this case were desperate to the point of being a little silly and it's unlikely to be a repeated game. Still, it's damn impressive.
The thing that puzzled me though, why would the CEO of flappin MGM told people that on average they'll lose on average 20% of their money when they gamble? I mean, isn't that how MGM make money?
