I can work remotely for the next 1.5 months... ideas on what to do?

Long story short - my office was severely affected by Hurricane Sandy and will not be operational for a month at least. My manager says we can all work remotely in the meanwhile. Realistically though, I don't have that much to do so "working remotely" will most likely mean working 3~4 hours a day and just dicking around.

I thought to myself - why not make the best of this opportunity and go live somewhere new for a month? It would have to be in the US (will still need to make conference calls etc so can't be in a completely different time zone)... but does anyone have any suggestions?

My current thoughts:

  • Get a sublet for a month (or houseshare) near a ski resort (thinking Lake Tahoe, Aspen, Vail, or Vermont)

  • Hawaii?? Though time zone might be difficult

Anyone have any suggestions?

depends on what you want. If you want to just hang at a beach, then California might be better than Hawaii b/c time zone is only 3 hrs off. Santa Barbara and Malibu have great beaches.

For skiing/ski resorts all the places you listed are legit. Find what's in your budget and go with it.

o believe me, ill be doing that.

thanks for the airbnb suggestion - spent a few hours browsing it. aspen/vail seem a little too expensive (e.g. most decent places near the resort are 2K+ a month).

keep the suggestions coming!
