I am really sorry to hear about this and you have every right to seethe for the moment.Know that while these losers pulled one over on you and stole your money, they don't have the ability to regenerate it like you do. So while they won this one day in time, you're winning in life.Lick your wounds. Then don't let it fester any further. Allowing them to live rent free is just letting them continue to win.

Living in any city these days is brutal, esp with the cop pool degrading over time due to public hatred for them.

Imagine thinking this is reality rather than the much more rational explanation that the police have always been like this. They’ve always just came after a crime has been committed to shrug their shoulders and write down a few details.

This is the big city cycle.

incident happens involving police brutality. Usually justified , sometimes legitimately  not.

Media catches on and cares only if white cop and black victim, and reports only part of the facts to paint the cops bad.

suburban white guilt over educated liberals get in uproar calling police bad. Uneducated urbanites who don’t know better get in uproar calling police bad. Protests and/or riots and/or media circus ensues

cops rightfully say “fuck this, it’s a raw deal” and decide to not patrol those high crime areas

murders , violence, crime skyrocket. But hey, you don’t have a cop accidentally shooting a 5x convicted criminal once every 3 years now so worth it to self police. Until it gets worse and calls against police for “ignoring poor areas”.

Wash and repeat over and over again

over policing is a problem

Under policing is a problem

Maybe it’s not the police who are the problem

I know a guy who had some theft at his home. He’d call the cops and nothing would be done. He got a halfway decent camera set up and provided video footage, nothing was done.

Finally he had enough. He saw the general direction they’d go after stealing items off his porch/deck. One weekend he did a stakeout. Sure enough, the idiots showed up and again went to work taking his property. This time he ambushed them when they had their arms full with a baseball bat and got one solid swing to one of them on the kneecaps. The cracking sound was a horrific on the otherwise silent night. He bolted as to avoid being identified

High school kids never came back. If they called the cops, they likely got the same brush off my friend did.

My friend did wonder if he broke someone’s leg and kept an eye out at his kids events to see if a high schooler was on crutches or in a wheel chair all of a sudden. He never spotted anyone. He concluded it was some out of town teens just causing trouble in the burbs.

I utterly deplore the legal authorities in this country. They spend all their damn time writing up speeding tickets for people who go 70 in a 55 or who yield rather than coming to a complete stop and when real crime happens they do nothing.

A few years back around 2 am my neighbor accidentally discharged his gun into my apartment bedroom wall. He came within feet of killing me. When the police came they said there was nothing they could do. There was a bullet hole leading from his living room right into my bedroom but they said they couldn’t prove who shot the gun so nothing happened.

Fuck the police.

Did you see they released the video of the uvalde school massacre?

literally 77 minutes of cops waiting around as children get murdered.. texting, getting hand sanitizer, etc. fucking useless. All this SWAT gear just to LARP like some pussies, and share this blue line memes on fb trying to act tough

Just because a gun was fired from his apartment doesn’t mean it was him who actually fired it.  Anyone could have been in his apartment at that time.  Felony discharge of a firearm is a serious crime, and cops should have sufficient proof before ruining the man’s life.

It was either the gun owner, his wife, or his little kid. That would take about 2 seconds of investigation. Trash people like you are the problem with the justice system in this country. You’ve always got an excuse for a criminal or a defense for an incompetent police officer.

"Got robbed in a parking lot - out several hundred dollars. Buddy I was with tackled one and cracked his head open on the curb but all (7 or 8) got away. He usually carries but didn't tonight as we were out for drinks. Of course upset about the money, but the fact these guys are getting away with it is what truly pisses me off.

Cops can't / won't do anything. I've asked the stores for any security footage they may have. My friend also had her screen cracked as she tried to call 911. Police said they can check hospitals for head wounds as there was a pretty big pool of blood from the guy who got tackled, but I don't have a strong feeling they're going to try and figure it out."

Story doesn't seem to check out - You tryna get attention on an internet forum?

That’s shitty. Keep your head up, take it out in the gym. If there’s adjustments to be made in the way you carry yourself or in your self awareness, try to make those necessary adjustments. All you can do - get stronger, wiser, better.

Move out of Atlanta.  That city is a shit hole.  If my salary was tripled to relocate there I’d still turn them down.  My buddies car was stolen in Buckhead years ago and it took the cops 1.5 hours to respond.  I despise so much as having to have a lay over there.

Currently we are moving my family out of the metro suburb I’m at to somewhere more rural.  It is kind of sad because housing demand is still high in my current spot from all the people leaving the larger cities, cleared ~$30k above ask with multiple offers and less than 3 days on the market.  Going to miss my neighbors here otherwise I’m pumped.

Only two sources I trust, Glenn Beck and singing woodland creatures.

For what it's worth, I pee in the shower sometimes.

In all seriousness, I feel your frustration and it is really sad that the police won't be able to do much. In the end, you're still alive and not horribly injured. In the event your friend would have fired a round and possibly injured someone, you'd probably still keep your money but have to face other legal/mental consequences too which would have had effects we can't foresee right now. That being said, I'm glad you're ok and I hope you and your friend find justice. I'm also glad you're finding a safe way to let out your frustration.

I have a ccw permit but don't carry, but stories like this make me think a lot about it. Get swole and stay safe out there, my elote eating brother (idk if you're Mexican specifically or even Hispanic for that matter but it's delicious regardless).

Aren't they trying to leave Atlanta for this reason, to have their own police force? Idk what's the latest on that.

No easy way to go about dealing with the emotions from this event, Arroz.

The only thing I can imagine is that there are people on this planet in such a bad spot - homeless, drugged out, addicted, sick, and/or hurt and desperate - that they have resorted to committing these types of acts against their fellow humans. This is not a justification for what they did, as nothing can justify that, but framing things this way makes me thankful for the opportunities I’ve been given and hope those sick people get healed.

@Arroz con Pollo" feel free to PM bud. I can probably provide some insight to you on stuff like this, as we dealt with this day in day out.

Long time lurker here who worked public (airport and other public areas) and private security protecting everyone from store owners, bankers, to politicians and C-level executives. Also trained on counter terrorism type stuff.

Partner I used to work with on our night shifts got a through and through with a kitchen knife from a previous incident with the homeless, he recovered but it shortened his life span.

Despite having left the industry, the same senses I have whenever I go anywhere still holds naturally - assess everything.

The problem with the cities being run now and stripping away police powers are that, crimes go wild. The extensions of the 2nd amendment right can be considered a blessing for many, as it’s by means people’s only real fair form of personal defense.

Anywho, I would suggest going to get a referral to therapy on this if you can. Incidents like these can be highly traumatic to individuals. Go train, get trained on self defense techniques, but don’t be a hero. Your life is way more valued. Seen many people die from this sort of action.

It happened to me once when I was a teenager. I was in a pretty bad hood in Philly with my cousin and his 2-year-old son. Someone caught me slippin', and he ran up on me from behind and put a gun to my head. The baby started crying, and he got me for about $700-$800. Cops are only there to clean up bodies; they're not solving any crimes. Some cities in this country really suck because they make it next to impossible to defend yourself without treating you like a criminal for protecting yourself, and the cops aren't going to protect you. All you can do is learn from the experience because you're probably not going to catch them unless you can remember what they look like and you live in the same neighborhood.

What stood out to me the most in your story is that you got robbed twice in a couple of months. Being robbed one time is one thing, but even if you live in the worst hood, that isn't normal unless you've been marked as an easy target in the hood. It has to be something about how you carry yourself and the energy you're giving off. I mean no offense by that, but it's just not normal unless you look like an easy victim. People don't rob people that look hard to rob. In my case, I was a kid, I was new to a neighborhood, and there was a baby with us. You don't even have to be the biggest baddest guy out there; it's more about the type of energy you give off.

Have an honest conversation with yourself about the way you're carrying yourself because you're attracting too much violence in a short amount of time.

It’s not just the police. It’s also the District Attorneys that refuse to prosecute these types of offences. Even if the police investigated and arrested the perpetrators, they would most likely not be charged and be back out on the street the next morning. It amazes me how America refuses to enforce the most basic elements of criminal law.

I'm surprised that you're happy your friend wasn't armed. It doesn't always end with just losing some money, and even when it does, it's also your overall sense of safety and control that you lose with it.

I know a lot of people worry about the responsibilities and complexities of firearm ownership and use, which are important points, but you also have to consider the dangers that exist regardless of your own preparation. Gravity doesn't care whether or not you're wearing a parachute.

In this stupid country you’re likely to get tossed in jail for defending yourself with deadly force.

You’re this mad over a theoretical punch in the face? You and your friends are alive, that is pretty lucky. Stop jerking yourself off in a bout of performative rage and appreciate that fact for a minute. Being out $700 is tough but hey, at least you learned not to carry around cash. You also learned you’re pretty bad at being a stoic.

I am sorry this happened to you in all honesty since it sucks feeling unsafe in your city and it that the cops don’t have the resources/inclination to help out much. Besides carrying around a gun you just have to be a little smarter about what you do at night. They specifically target bars at closing time bc that’s when the drunks are coming out.

The kid is no stoic. "A man both celebrates and suffers alone". A true stoic would have never made this post to begin with.

I have heard atlanta is getting really bad. Didn’t buckhead try to split off from atlanta and form is own government and police force a while back?

Anyway, never and I mean never, engage with a group of young black dudes, especially when you are out numbered.

When they are roaming like that they are bored and just itching for a fight. It’s best to just avoid them. When people have nothing to lose, they are liable to do anything.

Mistake was that the girl yelled back at them.

Ahhhh damn bruh....This is gonna sound misogynist af, but I'll take the MS if I have to. I've been there. Some women just don't know when to stfu because women, by nature of being a woman, don't understand or respect male violence. Women can be a major liability because if you're out with a woman, you're basically responsible for her and have to protect her, but most women can't do a damn thing to help you in a fight with another man even if she wanted to. They're quick af to start one, though. I guarantee you and your friend would have known better than to start some shit with a group of eight Black guys who wanted a problem, but here comes a woman wanting to get loud because she truly doesn't believe she's gonna get knocked tf out because she's a girl. What's even worse is you're in Atlanta, where everyone has guns.

You gotta be quick af to check or dead women like this. I remember one time my girl started with a group of thugs in a parking lot. She hit me with the, "You're going to let them talk to me like that?" It was me and her, and there were about 4-5 of them; they weren't small and looked like they were ready to throw their lives away. Then she had the nerve to say she would have helped me. She can barely lift grocery bags. A lot of women really live in a fantasy world of their own delusions.

That night I gave her an education on male violence and how she really put us both in danger. Some women really don't understand how dangerous the real world is because they're so sheltered from it because of their gender. Life isn't Hollywood, where a guy drops 8 guys by himself and carries his girl home and sleeps with her before a commercial break, but some of these girls act like it. Someone will always be around to protect and provide for a woman no matter how much they scream they're equal and can do anything a man can do, but the reality is women are physically weaker, and men in society will always come to their defense. Men are on their own.

Are you wearing certain things / driving flashy cars / doing something to draw attention? Just curious as it’s been mentioned that similar events have happened to you recently.

Did you say Atlanta? If so, which area is this?

My friends and I were mugged at knifepoint by a couple of teenagers in Rio a few hours after arriving in the city (it wasn’t my first time there). About 5:00pm, cameras everywhere, major street … cops didn’t do a thing (not that I would have expected them to). The thieves stole my iPhone, which unfortunately had my pictures from our entire multi-week trip across multiple countries in South America. But honestly, that wasn’t what really bothered me…

It is hard to describe the absolutely awful feeling of being violated when someone threatens your life and steals from you. My friends and I spent the next few days literally imagining and discussing all the ways we could have acted differently in order to kick the cr*p out of the kids. It cast a shadow on the remainder of our trip and unfortunately is the most memorable part of what was otherwise a lot of fun. This was nearly ten years ago but I still associate Rio with crime due to this incident, despite it having so much more to offer. So all I can say is — I’m sorry you got robbed and I think the feelings of violation and anger are normal — I’m generally an incredibly calm person. Give it time, move on, and try not to dwell on the situation.

America is too reactionary with race to ever really solve this problem, and elected leaders prefer to make headlines with bold catchy statements proposing simply solutions to difficult problems to ever really even try to tackle the issue. But hey the Stephen Colbert watching, NPR listening, never actually lived in a poor area crowd will lap it up and go to the polls like good boys/girls to receive their “I am not a racist” sticker. Then when shit continues to hit the fans (see: every major city right now) they will just move somewhere safer.

it’s really hard to see a way for some of these cities to make meaningful improvements to fight crime like NYC did in the 80s and 90s.
