I'm 18

Is it just because I am 18 that I don't understand like jack squat of what anyone says? Or is there like a book I could get to understand this business lingo? I found this website a while back because I was researching for college and stuff, and I want to try marketing, but some say I should go for accounting. Okay enough rambling. So do I learn these acronyms and stuff just through going to college...?

You will learn some of the lingo people use on this site in college but alot of it is very industry specific. Also dont go to school for marketing.... Finance, Accounting and Business Management are in my opinion the only business majors worth doing. They have the broadest job appeal and are the most comprehensive for the most part.

You will learn recruiting lingo when you go through recruiting. Concentrate on schoolwork, not on learning how to drop random acronyms.

Finance and accounting are the ways to go in undergrad business. With those at least you come out of school with some knowledge you could actually put to work doing something. Business management, business adminsitration, etc. is all BS in my opinion. Accounting is boring but at least you can always get a job being an accountant pretty easily, and accounting knowledge is very helpful in most areas of business.

Also, are you the one on the left or the one on the right?

There's no book about the abbreviations and language of the industry, unfortunately, or everyone would have read it. If you're interested in marketing, I'd recommended adding it as a minor or second major at best. All the way through sophomore year I had it as my second major. I ended up dropping marketing is not a very marketable degree, it's niche because you've chosen one discipline of business to pursue above all else and it doesn't teach you much applicable to other disciplines, whereas Finance or Management or something more comprehensive usually gives you greater breadth. You can spin a B.S. in Finance into a job in just about any field you want. Marketing, not so much.

As for the lingo, don't worry, half the kids going through recruiting don't even know that much. Don't overestimate your competition.

I am 18 also..yes shocking. Please don't ever post things like this again also there is an FAQ, GOOGLE, hmm what other means of searching something? Being lazy wont get you in the front door so don't keep it up.

The answer to your question is 1) network 2) get involved 3) beef up your resume 4) repeat -happypantsmcgee WSO is not your personal search function.

I think you would be super cool at school if you start telling chicks your life goals, try this on them and just watch them lust over you and your prestigious aspirations:

Im going to an Ivy next year, then I will be applying for an SA at all the bulge brackets, you know? That way I can leverage my way to a superday by graduation and get a full time offer with a LevFin group at one of the top tier elite boutiques. Once I do 2 years there Ill be well on my way to a spot in PE.

Don't do business management....Do Finance or Accounting. More practical major for hiring purposes. I hear that some/all people look at management as a BS degree when it's time to get a job.

Business Management is by in large a bullshit degree. A B.S. in Management from a target, may not be because quite of how many prospective consultants charge through it.
