Internship Advice: Metlife 4-yr investment analyst program

Fellow monkeys I need advice. Ive been recently offered an opportunity to join Metlife for a summer internship within their investment department. They offer a 4 year investment analyst program. I have attached links to provide more information in reference to what Ill actually be doing. I will have a choice between commercial real estate/capital markets, or high return investments. Hedge fun, equity work. Please offer advice. BTW I am a sophmore econ major with good grades at a non target near nyc. Think Rutgers, SHU, Drexel.

The Investments Analysts Program (IAP) is a four-year program designed to give analysts valuable "hands-on" experience assisting investment professionals at a leading institution before entering a full-time graduate business school. After graduation from college, analysts are placed in an assignment within MetLife Investments. The IAP is not a rotational program, but participants may have the option after two years to apply and interview for other assignments within MetLife Investments. In addition, high performers may have an opportunity for longer-term employment with MetLife after they have completed the four-year program.

Our recruiting cycle for the 2010 Investments Analysts Program is between August and December for placements before August 1, 2011. Graduates with business degrees, excellent analytical abilities, strong computer literacy, and a proven record of academic achievement with a minimum grade point average of 3.2 are encouraged to apply. IAP candidates have been hired for positions within: portfolio management, Asset Origination, Structuring and Trading, Research, Real Estate & Agricultural Investments, and Investment Operations. Current openings depend on staffing needs.

Out of all the insurance investment groups, MetLife is pretty high up there. I believe the order is Pru, Met, NYLife for AUM. So relative to other insurance investment groups you are looking pretty good, but I am not sure how that compares to banks/funds.

One of the cons is that those jobs do not have high turnover so there will not be as many incoming analysts your age as you might see in a bank. Don't know if that is important to you or not.

Also, the hours are real nice. I worked at a slightly lesser tier insurance company (still had >100B AUM), and incoming analysts worked 45-50 hours per week.

Thanks for the post. And as it relates to my question, the hedge fund portion was disclosed in the job description that was sent to me via email as I disclosed in this post. The main thing I wanna know which is what you answered is if The name and the position means anything. And they have also expressed that their goal is to turn their interns into full time offers upon senior year. Also when I looked into their compensation of glass ladder for an analyst it said 72k and doesnt specifiy if it is all in. Also, it is a 4 year rotational program which I am assuming while provide me which ample work experience that I can leverage to get into a respected B School.
