He doesn't use the word "madness" in the title casually; he actually suffers bipolar disorder and developed OCD while working as head of ETF trading for Lehman. Sold me, just bough it this morning. Hopefully its as entertaining as Good to Be a Banker and Liars Poker.
I think it's better than Liar's Poker.
Yeah, that's something I thought about mentioning, but the comparison to Liar's Poker of just about every book published on finance is pretty tired.
In this case, however, I think it's appropriate. It's a lot like Liar's Poker in that it's really funny and it's full of great stories. It's quite a bit different, however, because Liar's Poker was basically told from an outsider's perspective (sure Lewis worked for Salomon at the time, but even he would admit that he was never a part of their culture and was merely an observer for a few years) where Street Freak is written by a consummate insider.
Street Freak is not just a series of dispassionate and ironic observations; Jared really makes you feel like you're being persecuted (and at one point even pursued) by the SEC. His descent into madness is a visceral thing. I don't want to seem like I'm pimping the book like there's no tomorrow, but I'm not exaggerating when I say it was one of the best books I read last year. Liar's Poker is a classic, but Street Freak is a more than worthy successor.

How does it compare to FIASCO, which I am reading now?
I loved FIASCO and I'm a big fan of all of Frank's work, but again, it was basically told as an outsider. There's nothing wrong with observational non-fiction, but Street Freak is much more autobiographical.
