Tough it out for the moment - it will get better as you start getting promotions (I am assuming a 2-3 year graduate rotation scheme?) which shouldn't take too long.

You're right to spend on a nicer flat because living in a bad environment is not worth the stress to your mental health. If you find a partner/flat mate you can half some of the bills but as you like privacy this may not be ideal for you.

Not sure I understand this post.
You can live in good neighborhoods in Essex and be in Canary Wharf in 19-23 minutes on the C2C. Crossrail is coming up soon from Brentwood, Essex.

You don't have to live in Kensington if you work in banking (in fact, I'd be surprised if many regular BB folks did).

And even if you really want to live in London, there are so many nice boroughs to pick from, they aren't all super expensive. I have met people who work retail jobs at 9.5GBP per hour who also live in London (with flatmates). It's tight, but still doable. If you are young it is actually nice to have people around, you'll make so many new friends.

You can get a nice 1 Bed in S Ken for ~£2.2k, studio for ~£1.4k.

I'd be pretty surprised if Analysts (studio)/ Associates (1-Bed) couldn't afford that, especially with A1s now making £60-70k base, AS1s making £115k after the bumps.

Of course, you might prefer to be nearer to Camary Wharf if you're unfortuanate enough to be working there...

Seconded. I'm in Langdon Hills and eyeing up Shenfield for exactly this reason. Definitely beats paying City prices!

Funniest

NYC cost of living is:

brb 4000 for a  non chitty 1 bedroom

brb trash on the streets everywhere

brb subways are horrible, full of scummy people, and delayed due to said scummy people throwing trash on tracks which catch on fire

brb 5% of paycheck going to deblasio so he can work out 2 hrs a  day during work hours at the park slope ymca and funnel billions to his wife for her "thrive nyc" program and have it all be unaccounted for

brb crime increasing / murders at 1990s rates now / broad daylight murders in time square now

brb BLM destroyed half the city while the government did nothing

brb terrible weather for 8 months of the year

brb neighbors put up "All lives matter, no human is illegal signs" yet they live in a neighborhood that is 95% white in a city that is COMPLETELY segregated by race and send their white kids to private school with other white kids

NYC should not be expensive - only good thing is all the thirsty girls from middle america that move here in their 20's looking for FUN

London’s cost of living isn’t the most depressing thing in the world.
